Part of what I understand about this case is that he transferred to play more in positions that would garner views from college scouts. This would give him a better chance to get a scholarship to college. That's what his play has earned him this year and if he had sat on the bench who would have seen his talent and offered? Dale did what was right for the kid. :thumb:

 

I have a hard time believing this kid would have sat on anyone's bench. He is that good. I do agree Dale did the right thing and let him play. (Even if it cost him a state championship.

I don't know much, but the logical thing to do at this point is let the injuction stand for games previously played. But now that the injunction is over ruled Mitchel is ineligible to play Saturday, but the 3A game goes on.

It was ruled legal by the KHSAA hearing officer when it was originally in front of the KHSAA. Why does the KHSAA have a hearing officer if they don't accept their rulings??

I understand that but I'm curious as to whether the title is awarded to the other team or the title is vacated. Those are two different outcomes. I think Boyle would not look at it as a championship won.

 

I think if the title is vacated, then it is even worse IMO. That would mean that prior to the game HHS had the edge and Boyle County would then be punished, either way we are all in agreement, there is no happy ending coming to this.

From what I read on here in preseason the reason for the transfer was that Cov Cath only utilized Mitchell in a particular manner. He felt he could best receive a scholarship offer if he was utilized in a different way. He wasn't a bench warmer for the Colonels but my understanding is that he wasn't a star until he suited up in Bird Blue.

If Highlands won with Mitchell and then was declared ineligible, I'd feel Highlands was the legit state champion on the field. Just my take.

Exactly. Better to fix things now, and let it truly be decided with LEGAL players.

Golfer, it wasn't HHS who got the injunction. It was the mitchell family. If he would have been declared ineligable he wouldn't have played him. FYI what the Mitchell's did is exactly what I would have done with my son.

 

It doesn't matter. Dale still knows the risk of what he was doing. It was Dale's call to play Mitchell and HOPE there were no consequeces. I'm not blaiming him but he took the risk and he may have to pay for it.

If that is the motivation behind his transfer, then by the transfer rule, the KHSAA was correct in declaring him ineligible. Maybe that is why the court upheld the ruling.

is everyone missing the point here??? we're talking about KIDS playing HIGHSCHOOL football. if the ruling was going to be overturned then it should have been done within a week or two. how do you tell a kid who has worked so hard the whole season, played his heart out, that the state FINALLY decided that you can't play in the last game(THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME)

It sure isn't fair to the kid to make him sit out, because it's not fair to about 3 or 4 teams sitting at home that will never know what could have happened. If the player is ineligable I dont see how Highlands could keep the wins, but all together is horrible timing by the KHSAA and this has ticked more than just the Highlands folks' off.

This could also read as an after the fact bylaw? Couldn't it mean if the championship game had already been played the winner would not have to forfeit it?

 

Could this be a bylaw they will use to say we have to stop it here or there is nothing we can do after this game is played?

The KHSAA has to draw a line somewhere and put a stop to all of these transfers.

 

 

not 100% sure but i'll bet plenty of kids go to cov cath that don't live near there. they are a private school who can get the pick of the litter if they want. if a kid doesn't want to play there they can just throw a fit and cause what we're seeing now???

I thought I read that his mother had back problems and had to move to a one story apartment in Ft. Thomas to be closer to work? So the move was actually to garner scholarship attention?
