I may be wrong by saying this because it has been a while since I read the original Mitchell Case thread that stayed on the front page for so long but wasn't the coaches, administration, etc fully aware that this could happen at any point in the season? If so, I don't think the entire blame can be laid on the KHSAA, I mean if this was made aware to the HHS community earlier in the year, shouldn't it be some of the coaches fault for continuing to play him? But I also see where if a coach was to wait this long then maybe Mitchell wouldn't have gotten to play anyway, hindsight I guess. But if a caoch knew that this could possibly be an outcome that is a big risk to take.

I can't believe the KHSAA would be this stupid. (Yes, now that I'm rational I can.)

 

Let Mitchell play. He's a part of the team and this throws everybody out of kilter. Stick 1 is absolutely right. From this point forward it's all screwed up. Highlands and Boyle have both had to go through a mind game that is no fault of either school or team but the fault of some overbearing suits who find their principle more important than the kids. Why could this have not waited until after the final if you are going to make Mitchell ineligible. That way if Highlands wins they know they had the best team in AAA. If Boyle wins they know they had the best. Records and court rulings can come after the fact but it wouldn't change the play on the field. Now everyone has been tossed in the air. :madman:

This is not new. People knew that there was a risk invlved in playing Mitchell, that this might happen. I would have played him, but there you are.

 

As for 'why now,' well, better now than after a finals game in my opinion. I mean that. What I really wish is that this had been decided before the playoffs.

IMO it is too late to have another game between two schools and then the winner play Boyle. It's probably too late to let Bell play also. How fair would it be for the kids at Bell and Boyle to have only 3 days to prepare for a game? I would venture to say it would have to be played on Saturday because of logistics. I don't see the KHSAA pushing back one final to the following week and incurring more exepenses.

This really ticks me off.

I agree 3, but as a coach did Dale have a choice. Once the injuction was in place what is is reasoning not to play one of your best players. Doesn't Dale have to honnor the court's ruling?

Right, but what if he was the difference in a close game? What if pressure on Mitchell opened up other scoring chances? There's no way to know or sort that stuff out.

I disagree. It is better after the finals. Then the full compliment of players from the two finalists have prepared for each other with complete focus and played on the field to determine the champion. If the hammer falls "after" the finals then so be it but the GAME would stand in everyone's mind. Now, no matter the outcome, the RULING will be all anyone remembers.

02 I disagree. This should have been decided in the regular season. I wonder how many other injuctions the KHSAA has fought like this one. Would they have continued this pursuit if HHS lost in the playoffs?

I do remember reading in a thread earlier in the year that this result was possible. I guess everyone had just figured due to the length of time that it was over.

This is Dale's fault plain and simple. I have talked to OB about this situation a couple of times on some things I have heard before the playoffs had happend and we both thougt that this situation would not go down like this but the chance was out there.

 

Dale risked every game he played in this season for Mitchell. That's the risk that they chose and Highlands may have to suffer the consequences for it.

 

I have talked about how poor the KHSAA is on rulings on many occasions and that is from expeirence. EJ went through almost the exact same situation last year. A player who had been named eligable was named ineligable a week before the playoffs. So, it was either get this kid an injuction or take a huge risk that you may have to forfeit your wins. EJ chose to keep the kid on the sideline. Highlands chose the other route and may have some serious problems to face.

 

 

My opinion on the KHSAA is about as low as you can get.
