We had a local case of this and someone said something very relevant.

 

Coaches should run their program and let newspapers, message boards, etc run their specific businesses too. Coaches have nothing to gain by getting involved with these kinds of things. There is too much to get done with running a program behind the scenes.

I would say alot of inside information comes from coaches on here. Parent's usually don't know what is going on all the time.

While true its not what was asked. If I were a principal, I would not bar my coaches but I would closely monitor them. I would NEVER accept a coach on my school's staff getting on here and making derogatory comments about anyone especially that coach's own players.

Coaches should probably not comment negatively about any one in a public forum.

If anyone cares, I understand why a coach would enjoy seeing what others are saying about the sport they are obviously passionate about. I also understand that they would like to chime in and get into the discussions. I would not understand any coach criticizing any member of their team or the team at all. This to me would be team business and team business only, to be discussed in the coaches office or locker room.

With BGP being the dominant source for sports, its not a stretch to think that coaches read and post on here.

 

I know we have one coach who has reveled his ID.

 

Would it upset you as a fan or a parent of a player to find out that a coach of your team posted negative comments about your team's players/your son on here?

Or should the parents/fans just accept it since they're probably blasting the kids in the lockerroom as well?

I think any adult who blast 14-18 year old kids over performance in a GAME needs to take a look in the mirror.

What about principal's who have joined. I heard a story about one that did just that to defend their actions.

A team is the reflection of a coach. Any comments about the team is a comment about the coach.

I'd guess that far more coaches read than post. Just a hunch. Why would they want to post? All of us coaches have it all figured out, we've made their jobs so much easier. No one needs film sessions or game planning. Simply read the brilliance here!!!

When I coached in Kentucky (not a head coach), I did not have a membership because I thought that any posts on football would only get me in trouble.

 

I now coach in Texas and I like reading other's opinions and posting my own. I am still careful not to speak negatively about any specific kids or teams. I think that can be a trouble spot for any coach.

 

If I were a head coach, I would probably avoid reading and posting in the threads about my sport and I would be careful about posting anything too negative, especially about another school.

I think most coaches have enough class to handle themselves appropriately here.

 

If, by some chance a coach would use the forum to browbeat a kid, it should be brought to the attention of the AD of that school and handled accordingly. Cant image a principal even trying to to forbid his coaches to become a member.

Of the coaches that I know that post, they do so in an appropriate and insightful manner.

I have no problem with a coach being a member of BGP.

 

However, I think coaches should pick & choose where they post. Discretion is a beautiful thing.
