I should mention that sometimes its not very hard for some readers/posters to determine when its a frustrated coach posting vs a frustrated parent/general fan. That's the problem for coaches. You're a parent and you know that your son's coach just blasted your boy publicly (and anonymously) and it just doesn't sit well.

Your last statement is simply not true. While there are things you can't say we've seen many posters on her criticize players on a particular team. I'm not talking about "he didn't block well" or "he didn't pass very well" but rather posts that question a player's heart or make comments about a kid being "dirty."

 

That's worse than saying "this kid is not a strong high school qb" or "I think so-and-so should start."

 

Coaches should know better but , unfortunately, SOME do not.

Guru would have to answer that. There are around four thousand usernames, but I would say there are in the neighborhood of two thousand active members. On any given night you will see 200 members on line. Statistically that would mean that 40 of them are coaches.

Kids may NOT be singled out by name or number, so that part is true; it would fall under Rule #2.

The problems I've seen are general in their blasting essentially nailing every kid on the team .

Mod's attempt to find and report, any violations. On some occasions, comments may get by and in some instances, they're not Rules violations but nonetheless, some may perceive.

Call me naive but I would say that coaches would be the homers that pump their program regardless of what is said or how bad a particualr poster thinks they may have played. I doubt coaches are raging on their own team because I would think it would be an attack on themselves and their ability to prepare a kid to play on Friday. If a coach felt strongly enough to blast a kid on a message board wouldn't he also be able to sit that kid down and not play him. I just don't envision attacks on kids by someone that coaches him or her

Good point; coaches know those players better than anyone, even their parents.

 

I am grateful for the coaches that my son has and all the hard work and time they put in.

Like I said earlier in this thread, I think coaches should be members of BGP and, in fact, I think they are putting their program at a disadvantage if they are not. Just like a coach would be doing his program a disservice if a local newspaper called for an interview and he declined to speak to them.

Amen to that! Any coach that doesn't at least visit BGP is really doing himself and his team a disservice. He may not enjoy some negative comments he finds; but that will be far out weighed by the helpful information and insights into his opposition.

This is very true. I might add that it is also very much against the rules to post ANY information that you know to be false. This is one of the things that make BGP unique. So we should try to make sure we have our facts straight before we post.
