Since I am one of the folks this thread is about I thought I would respond. I think everyone knows I am a coach. (Not a head coach) I use this board as a source of information about football across the state. I also enjoy discussion in other forums besides High School football. The number one purpose is for fun. I love getting my friends fired up.

 

Never have I tried to hide behind a screen name. Don't want to. But others in the community across the state can get on here hide behind screen names and take shots at coaches, programs and kids. So I choose to be a member for the purpose to set the record straight. Does this hurt the program? I don't think so, because when kids get on here and read where parents and others are attacking their coaches I think they should see Coaches stand up for them and there programs. This is nothing I wouldn't do in public eye. Of course people who know me know I don't mind saying whats on my mind.

 

I hope I have never and never plan on talking bad about any kid.

 

So I choose not hide behind a name. The moment I used my screen name everyone in my community knew who I was. I hope by being a member on the site I add to good discussion.

I think all of us posters here on BGP do more than our fair share of Coaching.....maybe not on the sidelines, but from infront of our computer screens....lol

Good question. I would certainly have a discussion with him, tell him he's posted something negative for the last time, and tell him to quit posting at all. If he did not, it could certainly effect his job status. If I have a coach who is not enough of a professional to not go on a board and nail his own players, I probably don't have the right coach.

I enjoy the input from coaches like Chief Smoke, coach Jackson and Coach Buckett, never once have I seen anything but postive posts from these three, which is what I would expect, and they are very valuable to this sight.

Absolutely nothing wrong, with Coaches using BGP. I also don't think you would find any reputable Coach, saying anything negative about one of their own or another student-athlete, who competes.

 

You may get constructive criticism, on technique, need to improve ability or weaknesses, but they will hear that during practice anyway.

I have admiration, for anyone who chooses to coach student-athletes, in High School sports. Most do so, because they are passionate about the game and feel they have something, to offer.

 

I don't think many in our profession, would "intentionally" make public comments on BGP, in a negative manner on any student-athlete. Some may presume the context to be so but perhaps, it's a motivation issue or areas, that a player needs to improve in.

I don't think "many" would either. Its the "few" that do that are the concern.

IMO everyone is entitled to view and respond to forums but please use great discretion when taking negative views towards our teams, kids, and coaches.

I would agree, merely responding to why this may possibly happen.

 

That is why we have practices and individual meetings, to discuss those types of things.

 

Let's also, you extreme caution in not mentioning or insinuating, whomever we feel may be doing this. BGP is a tremendous site, for Sports and sharing thoughts/information.

I don't think anyone is saying it's inappropriate for a coach to post, only that it would be unfair and inappropriate for a coach - be it openly or anonymously - to make derogatory comments about any player, team, or school.

I don't see a thing wrong with coaches being members. If fact, I think coaches should be members, for several reasons.

 

This site is a great way to promote your team. For years players in certain areas of the state were not known. They had little chance of being All-State or Mr. Football. With this site, those players can now be known.

 

Teams can be covered by fans all over the state. Used to many teams were not often heard about, with this site, people anywhere in the state can find out about any other team in the state.

 

One of the things that makes this site great is the diversity. We have parents, fans, radio personalities, referees, players, and finally coaches. A lot can be learned by reading what all of these people have to say on a subject.

 

Should coaches be members? Yes, in fact I think a school is at a disadvantage if they do not have a coach as a member.
