I completely agree coaches should be able to post on BGP. But i dont agree with is posting negative things about your program or players within this site.

 

If a coach has posted something negative or you view it as negative statement, I would hope this individual has stated his comments to his players. I do not believe this is a site to motivate any student-athlete but I do believe coaches have the right to set the record straight, or at least inform the non-informed.

 

I dont believe this as a majority, but I feel some on here do not know whats going on within the program they support. Then come on BGP and post what they want or how they feel. EVERYONE has their views but if your not completely in the know, it could be more harmful than good......

 

Its easy for an individual to hide behind a screen name and say what they want but if your a coach, parent, fan, alumni, adminstration etc. ALL should be held accountable for their words and how our young men and women play on the fields/courts.

Personally, I'm not a fan of coaches posting about their program. Positively or negatively. I'd tell my coaches to not even read threads pertaining to our program.

 

The last thing you need is a coach making a decision based on something he read on BGP. Don't get me wrong, I love the site. But some posters have different agendas than others.

COMPLETELY AGREE.....I would hope and pray coaches are not making decisions based on what is posted here. The real disheartening thing is individuals on here saying they are die hard for their team but in the next post, speaking negatively about a player, coach, staff etc.

 

I enjoy this site but its just sad to read some of some of the things posted.

 

It is what it is and believe me I understand and maybe in a perfect world I would get my wish.

WOW Really a coach would make a decision based on something that they read on BGP? Knowing that it was probably written by someone that has not coached at their level. Maybe these posters have a superior football intellect because the played in high school or they watch college and pro football every week. Maybe they have a freind that is a coach so they increase their own knowledge and credibility because a freind of their sisters boyfriends cousin was an assistant coach at podunk high?

 

I think that first and foremost coaches should be able to post. I think that the only reason some folks do not want them to is they do not want their OPINIONS refuted by fact! As we all hide behind our screen names, we can be the most knowledgeable poster out there, then once the identity is revealed, you may be the IT person at Arby's. Learned all your football from Playstation or Xbox.

 

What about all of those intellectual parents that flop their opinions around because "my son said". Chill It! I do not know of many coaches that call the Fumble Play, or the Don't Block play, or even that timeless defense of the Arm Tackle 8. I love when a coach gets on and straightens out parental opinion.

 

Everyone should take posts for what they are.....Not necessarliy news or fact. Most are some scorned fans rantings to bring negative publicity on a school or a coach.

Then find yourself a new job. Inevitably, someone says something that reveals their identity, even if they're careful about concealing it. A coach that takes his parental problems to a message board will be a former coach real soon...

 

Bottom line is that a coach must have thick skin or they won't last long. You're never going to make everyone happy.

When ridiculous uninformed information is allowed to spew freely without anyone knowing what is or is not fact, then for some it becomes fact. Then they start to spread what "they have heard" as fact. Now once all of these folks BELIEVE what they have heard or read, it becomes a distraction to the TEAM, PLAYERS and COACHES. Now it has left the message boards and it is free flowing around the program.

A very difficult task when meddlesome folks spew garbage under the anonymity of a knowledgeable, informed observer. They should also be allowed to counter that with facts.

I would say you are about 100% correct. Personally, I just don't think it does any good for a coach to try to get on here and justify anything.

I do not think they should have to defend their actions, or justify to anyone their decisions. I do think that if I were in their shoes, I would definitely defend my Team or Players. I would most certainly correct inaccurate opinion with facts. Now with that said, you do not want coaches feeling like they have to respond to every little thing. I guess my biggest complaint is how much Parents or the truly uniformed can help to destroy a program without fear of retribution.

 

Honest answer: YES - Utopia would say NO. However, a GOOD PARENT would not vent in anonymity on a message board and would call for a closed door meeting with the Coach one on one. This is a much more productive way to address issues. What is a parent / fans motivation when they spew garbage on a board? In my experience with people like this, it only serves to raise their perceived self value. Just because they may not have gotten their way in the meeting then causes increased venom. I call it pointless. These are the same people that question every play call on Friday night and let everyone know what they would have done differently but NEVER HAVE OR NEVER WILL! It's easy from the stands!

 

I like to know what is going on in and around programs. I love football and like to be informed. I do want my information to be accurate. I do like to here what folks opinion is as it relates to players around the state that I will not get to see first hand. Stick with the facts around they player, not "stuff" someone has heard about a kid.

 

So it would seem that there will always be a split on this issue. I feel that if we stick to facts, coaches would not feel a need to defend themselves or their programs. If parents of student athletes are responsible and will realize that there could be more to their son not playing the "Coach". Then I think these boards will become even more informative.

I support those that coach our athletes on a daily basis. I have no problem with a coach using the online forum venue. I do take exception to a coach posting anything that is of a negative flavor about his team and/or players. I have always lived by the premise that "You praise in public and criticize in private" ---Private being in the locker room, field, etc. ---I always thought it was the coaches job to teach/coach UP the athlete.

I'm sure that many coaches check this forum out on a regular basis. Most of the people that replies to the football forum are big time high school fans, have a vested interest in his team or just like to talk high school football and give their opinion. It is easy for us to criticize and give solutions for the woes of our favorite football team. However, many of the replies are positive and it is great that some of these outstanding football players are recognized. Coaches probably laugh at some of the things said in forums. I really believe that there are several members of BGP that have a great knowledge of football and are presently coaches or have been in the past. If a coach picks up a suggestion or idea that someone has mentioned,a good for him. A coach, I mean (good coaches) should be continually learning and always have their minds open to new ideas or improvements. Just my opinion!!

I agree that coaches should be able to take comments at will and not at heart.. thick skin comes with coaching...if you have never set foot on the field to lead and teach our youth about sports then you are an arm chair..if you have then you know that you never look into the stands and you certainly don't listen to the jibberjabber of the fans and parents...god bless our coaches that give up many hours of their time to do a great thing for very little pay and at times even less respect...

Of the three major sports: football, baseball and girls/boys basketball. I'd say 90%...
