BGP is great for all of us footballl fanatics. Although we are able to figure out pretty quickly who our local members are by the things they say. That being said, we all must stand accountable for the things we do and say just as if we are standing in front of a crowd with a microphone. I don't think a computer screen should be used as a place to hide and voice opinions. :thumb:

Message boards are all about anonymity. I agree that things are said here that probably wouldn't be said publicly, but frankly, that's part of why the discussions are typically of a high quality. Folks can say what they really think. However, I'd hope that for the most part the coaches are of a high enough character to avoid bashing athletes. And I think that the ones that I know here do a very good job with that.

Amen to that! Any coach that doesn't at least visit BGP is really doing himself and his team a disservice. He may not enjoy some negative comments he finds; but that will be far out weighed by the helpful information and insights into his opposition.

 

This is why I said I believe 90% of head coaches in the three major sports are members.

 

1) It's free and we all know that coaches love free stuff.

2) You can find out about kids and teams.

3) Information is posted here before anywhere else, like scores.

How many members?

I know a dozen or so hoops coaches and all read BGP. 1 coach still won't talk to me and I really didn't say anything that bad.

 

:lol::thumb: The truth hurts and some coaches or those pretending to be coaches don't like it much when people differ with them. They spend their entire day intimidating kids and they often times think that approach will work with adults.

You're probably better off not having them talk to you. Don't compromise your beliefs just to make a coach decide to speak to you again.

I use to enjoy reading Coach Jackson's posts and comments when he was the head coach at Pikeville.

 

For someone that no longer lives in the area, it gave me an extra resource to keep up with my alma mater.

Close. 20% of all the members on BGP are varsity head coaches or varsity assistant coaches.

 

:confused:I'm curious then just when do these coaches take the time to view and possibly post on BGPs? Hopefully instructional time in the classroom isn't being compromised because some coach feels the need to read what is being said about them or their program during the time they should be teaching..I'm hoping most schools don't allow access to sites such as BGPs during the course of the day but maybe I'm wrong..

However, I think coaches should pick & choose where they post. Discretion is a beautiful thing.

I agree that some people will say things on here that they may not publicly. But most local people are able to figure out who we are on here. I know several and I believe they know me. That is why I think we should only say things that we would to one another in person. I think coaches should definately use caution in the things they say on BGP as if players, parents and everyone knows their identity. Of the coaches that you know, have you ever been dis-appointed by their comments? If so, you may not have been if you did not know their identity.

That's a slippery slope. You post something positive about little Johnny and little Billy's parents will be upset because you didn't post something positive about him, causing dissension. You post something negative about little Johnny or Billy and, quite frankly, you'll lose your job.

 

As I stated before, if you post more than a couple of times there's a pretty good chance that someone will figure you out, regardless of the rules.

 

Being a member is fine, heck I'd encourage it. Posting about things that have zero to do with your program, fine too. Posting about your program, team, administration or players is very touchy...

I think that 20% is a huge number. I was thinking that it would be much lower than that. I would buy into 80% of the coaches of major sports in Northern Kentucky READING BGP, but not posting.

 

How interesting would it be if the site were frozen and actual names were inserted in place of all of the pseudonyms. I think some coaches as well as parents, players, and fans would have some egg on their faces.

 

I think it would result in a situation much as in the Steven King book - Needful Things, when neighbor turned on neighbor and a whole community self-destructed.

 

I'd like to think that posters wouldn't post anything on here that they wouldn't post if their true identity were known, but I'm not so naive as to believe that.

Agreed. I did say 90% initially but I didn't specify that I meant readers AND posters.

I am not sure I agree. Imagine if we allowed people willing to use their real name to do and say pretty much anything they wanted? After realizing no one is going to do anything about it some members would be "out of control" with their criticisms.

I would not read or post if people could say anything without any restraints. They have a board in Tenn that is moderated but not nearly as well as BGP. It gets pretty nasty sometimes and kids are usually the first ones to read it! BGP is outstanding at keeping posters under control, even in the Politics and Religion board, LOL!!:thumb:
