I agree, he threw several passes so wobbly my mom could throw with more zip on it than that. (But, after all, my mom is one helluva woman....LOL)

 

Those were tipped balls brother, I was shocked to see him get that many balls tipped, and that was a major factor in the game. Cantwell throws TOO hard on a lot of finesse throws (Chichester in the end zone, and Guy across the middle).

I am under the impression that the halo penalty no longer existed, I will look.

Your right, it hasn't existed since 2003. The rule is that the defense must allow the receiver to catch the ball unimpeded. It was a blown call but it UofL didn't play well enough to win anyway.

The halo rule is out, the rule states that the receiver must be given an unimpeded opportunity to catch the ball. My two cents, is that Lyons had an opportunity to catch the ball, obviously so, as he tried to catch it. Would U of L still have lost? I am most certain, but it would've been fun to see what did happen. All in all, I am very, very pleased with the effort of the defense. The better team won, and that's what should happen in football.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I have a hard time believing Louisville's defense improved that dramatically from last year to this one. If I'm right, then UK will be lucky to score 10 points a game in SEC competition. Where was the UK running game? I figured they'd do a lot better, which gives me a little bit of hope for UofL.

UL looked great stopping a solid group of backs from UK, but UL did not have to worry about the pass. Their most effective passing plays were screens are passes just beyond the LOS. I do not think you can take a whole lot from their performance. Hopefully for UL we are both wrong. I am already on record saying that I am a big fan of the Ron English hire.

There is no "Halo Rule" in college anymore. I saw that play probably five times this weekend, and the only time I saw it ruled a penalty was in this game. USC had a Virginia guy right in his face on one and the refs let it be a fumble.

 

Incidentally, Virginia couldn't score when it got the ball.

 

I thought there were a lot of good things out of U of L today. The offensive line performed well. The running game was not robust but we ran the ball OK even when UK was stacking the line and had only a couple of negative running plays. The pass blocking was pretty good. Cantwell got hit a few times, but he is a pocket passer and UK's defensive line is talented, and otherwise the protection was sharp.

 

I was extremely impressed with the Heyman brothers. Both of them were everywhere. I think Laterrious Thomas (#10?) needs work, he overplayed several runs.

 

Cantwell did not play well. He underthrew several passes and chose poor aerial touch on a few others. In the second quarter he had Chichester for a TD if he had lofted the ball instead of throwing a line drive. That said, there is no doubt about the strength of his arm, and my brother and I counted 8 balls on DVR replay that should have been caught, including 1 for a TD to Vaughn (who had an awful game).

 

I would stick with Bolen and Victor running the ball, use Beaumont as a duel threat back/receiver, move Chichester in as a TE, and hope Trent Guy gets healthier.

 

The kicking game sucks.

 

The bright side is that the Big East is not all that strong, and with work I could see UofL in position to qualify for a winning Big East record.

 

Those of you who claim UofL quit were not watching this game, they played very hard start-to-finish and were beaten by a stronger team. I do not like UK's chances in the SEC this year. With the exception of the DL and Masthay, they have no one unit that excels at anything.

2, Powell clearly interferred with Lyons catching the ball. I've backed it up many times and he was too close. That call is made every time.

This is what I was most shocked by watching the game. I did not realize how much the talent had dropped at UL.

I'm kind of surprised that UK was able to put up 29 points in the first game.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't disagree with you more here. Troublemakers disrupt team chemistry and overall morale and evenutally recruiting. Coach K needs to stick with his agenda. In the longrun, the Louisville program will be better for it.

Great to win but still a lot of questions.

 

Is UK's D "really good" or did they go against a team with no receivers and no running game?

 

Is UK's O "really bad" or did UL's defense make a complete 180 from last year?

 

Why couldn't UK run the ball up the middle ?

 

Can UK win SEC games with Hartline performing like he did today? Is the running game good enough to take the pressure off of him?

 

We'll see. It sure felt odd watching UK win a game with defense but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Still trying to recover from yesterday...that is the hottest game I have ever been to and one of the hottest I have been in my life...I got so hot in the 2nd quarter that I had to go find some shade...While sitting in the shade I saw a fan being hauled out on a stretcher about every 5 minutes it seemed.

Seriously though, I only watch T vs X games there, and those are always later, so I never knew it was an issue. But nearly every fan that was there was saying the same thing. The news said 100 people at the game were treated for heat related issues. They showed a thermometer sitting on the field that registered 120 degrees, which was as high as it went. It could have been more. :fire:
