September 1, 200818 yr I was rooting for UK, that is the difference, it was pretty for me and ugly for you because your offense looked awful and things snowballed fast. As for UK, their defense rocked, the main reason UofL offense looked so bad. So what was the main reason the UK O looked pitiful???
September 1, 200818 yr So what was the main reason the UK O looked pitiful??? I'd say: 1. Rookie QB (has potential, but - and correct me if I'm wrong - but he's never had any PT until Sunday). 2. Conservative playcalling. Brooks knew going in that UofL had tons of question marks and was a winnable game for them, unlike some teams they'll be seeing in the next few months. It didn't surprise me one bit to see very little shown offensively. 3. English improving The Cardinal defense. It was by no means spectacular, but WOW I was happy to see players actually tackling and not trying to slap the other players out of commision. Players were actually going where they needed to go! It was awesome!
September 1, 200818 yr Very disappointing. Both defenses looked good, suprised UK didnt score more cause it seemed like they started every drive at the 50. I'm still not giving up on Krag.

Brooks knew going in that UofL had tons of question marks and was a winnable game for them, unlike some teams they'll be seeing in the next few months. It didn't surprise me one bit to see very little shown offensively. That is my #1 reason why UK didn't look great, I didn't say awful because they weren't. The coaches were keeping the offense in check IMO, because they knee they had the field position battle won and their defense wasn't going to bend much less break. They weren't about to have Hartline start gunning balls across the middle and take a chance on UofL stealing that big MO.

And when your defense can score at will, why risk anything on offense. Lord that hurts to type...:creepy:
September 1, 200818 yr Cobb has to be on the field as much as possible. Hopefully Boyd can be an impact.

Hopefully the Cats will have a few weeks of building confidence and getting comfortable on offense before they have another big test.
September 2, 200818 yr That's one of the worst things I've ever read on here. I've said it before, I'd rather Louisville not win a single game with guys that follow the rules and actually care about themselves and the game than talented idiots willing to throw everything away because they want to look cool or feel good for a little while. I have my pride as a UofL fan, but winning isn't everything. Some people need to keep in mind that this is just a freaking game. You are kidding yourself if you think you would keep cheering for a UL squad that went win-less year in and year out. When Petrino was bringing these kids in and winning I heard no complaints. As a coach you have to know how to manage those type of kids. I have pride as a UL fan as well. Bottom line I want them to win Championships. I think the coaching staff is a good staff. They have plenty of guys that have knowledge about football. There is very little talent on this team. I will always take talent over a guy who can't make plays.
September 2, 200818 yr That's terrible. Those liquor drinkers may win you some ball games, but they'll eventually get you fired and leave your team on probation. I'm with some of the other posters on here. I love to win, but I'd rather do it the right way. UL is seeing right now what happens when you sacrifice too much to win. You need to stop kidding yourself. That is why the Wva's , Ohio States, LSU's keep winning they have guys who can make plays. (aka Liquor Drinkers)
September 2, 200818 yr UK 1. The UK defense as a whole was spectacular, but the Front Four and Secondary was absolutely superb. The front four constantly pressured Cantwell, pursued the running game and missed very few tackles, and forced big plays. The secondary gave very few good looks to UL receivers, Lindley was Lindley, Jones broke up about four passes and looked confident in one on one situations, and Cobb/McClinton were always around the ball. 2. Tony Dixon is not our best running threat. The run blocking was pitiful (alot can be credited to UL though). 3. UK's special teams looked to be vastly improved in certain aspects, but I still have little confidence inS eiber adn those punts into the endzone have to stop. 4. I would grade Hartline with a C-. Loved that he wouldn't force things and managed the offense and the clock well. He cannot throw the deep ball though, the safety was a horrible decision, and on one pass thta got batted back to him he tried to catch it as he was fallig down 15 yards behind the LOS in UL territory. He will improve. 5. All in all... I was pleasantly surprised and if UK can get their act together a 7 win season is plausible. UL 1. I won't add anything on Cantwell that has already been said, but I will call Mel Kipher an Idiot for projecting him as one of the best QB's in the nation and a Day 1 Draft Pick. 2. Doug Beaumont was the best skill player on the field for either team IMO. The kid constantly ran perfect routes, helped his QB out by coming back to the ball, and had the most sure hands of any receiver on the field. He will be a superstar if he stays healthy. 3. UL's backs did everything they could, but the UL line was just getting manhandled. Bussey and Wood better be in their comrades ears, because if UL's line doesn't improve their run blocking it will be curtains. 4. Ron English may end up being the best thing to ever happen to UL. His defense was well prepared, flew to the ball, and masked their weaknesses well.

I will always take talent over a guy who can't make plays. 1. Not at all. I might start going into games expecting losses, and be critical of them, but I would NEVER stop cheering for them. 2. You heard no complaints because it's entirely possible the Petrino scared the kids into behaving themselves in public. It's possible Petrino was a ninja at keeping incidents on the down-low. All of that is behind-the-scene activities, and unless you were there, you don't really know what was going on. 3. I agree. 4. If you want to take the talented idiots, be my guest.
September 2, 200818 yr And when your defense can score at will, why risk anything on offense. Lord that hurts to type...:creepy: And the truth shall set you free!
September 2, 200818 yr And the truth shall set you free! Don't get ahead of yourself. I'm still a die hard Louisville fan, and I'm still a Trinity fan. In your eyes I'm bound for a very hot afterlife.
September 2, 200818 yr :confused:You've got to be kidding right? Cantwell did not look good/ok at all IMO, he missed wide open throws, put way too much zip on finesse throws and way too many tipped balls for a QB as tall as him. There's a big difference between good and ok. There were almost as many dropped balls as there were bad passes. The OL wasn't great either and I'm certainly not going to put the game on Cantwell's shoulders.
