September 2, 200818 yr There's a big difference between good and ok. There were almost as many dropped balls as there were bad passes. The OL wasn't great either and I'm certainly not going to put the game on Cantwell's shoulders. I'll bet there are very few people that would say Cantwell played OK...
September 2, 200818 yr My how the mighty have fallen. Only 25 years ago we were thinking about cutting football. 15 years ago it was rare if we could make a bowl game. 10 years ago we were thrilled with a winning record in Conference USA. 5 years ago we thought winning the Liberty Bowl was outstanding. Look at what we've done in just a quarter century. Not bad for the red-headed stepchild, eh? We'll be back. UK will always have more money, more alumni and more pull than any school in the state. The weight of 119 counties pulling against one is never easy to overcome (and even our one is often times overrun with blue). And yet, out of almost nothing, we've built a program that routinely wins games against one of the teams that FOUNDED the Southeastern Conference. If any of you think that even for one minute I'd give UK the satisfaction of thinking that I'd give up on this program, you're out of luck. Over the years I've relished UofL's underdog role as it's slowly climbed to the position it now holds. I, for one, almost feel more comfortable knowing we're back in that spot. We will most certainly be back.

September 2, 200818 yr Good call, bad call, all a bunch of excuses. :sssh: He (Lyons) should have made a better effort to catch the ball. You can't rely on that call to be made and I believe he was. Lyons was lucky IMO. That front 4 on D was very impressive.:thumb: Hope they stay healthy.:ylsuper:
September 2, 200818 yr I like it how U of L fans were questioning the fact that UK's defense wasn't that good because they would always bring up the fact that UK's defense was 10th best in the SEC. All I have to say is U of L fans better be glad they don't play in the SEC! Oh, yeah and thanks for inviting Morgan Newton to the game @ UK last year and also Ridge Wilson and Duece Finch this year. I'd say Duece will commit to UK soon and the duece will be loose again.

We will most certainly be back. Clearly. The post you quoted was fairly accurate though, especially for this message board. A little over a year ago the Cards were ranked in the Top 10, coming off of a BCS bowl victory, and were being pronounced the next elite program in college football (with references to 'Da U'). Since that time, the mighty sure have fallen hard.
September 2, 200818 yr Oh, yeah and any coach that throws to Trevard Lindley's side of the field more than once a quarter should be fired. However, David Jones is also stepping up to form one of the top Corner Combos in the nation!
September 2, 200818 yr Why did Mel Kiper have Cantwell so high on his draft board? I kept saying that U of L forgot they lost Brohm all I kept hearing about was Hunter Cantwell. Edited September 2, 200818 yr by Trojans sp
September 2, 200818 yr I don't think Cantwell played well at all but he had a lot of balls dropped. He as maybe alot of bad throws. On the other side I don't understand where any UK fan can be even remotely excited about Hartline. He can't throw anything over 10 yards and doesn't do much better with the short stuff. At least Cantwell has the arm strength and has proven in the past he can make the throws. I don't think he is the great QB some UfoL fans made him out to be but I also don't think he is what we saw this weekend. I believe the true Cantwell is somewhere in the middle. As far as Hartline goes I saw nothing from him to get me excited about this season. UK's defense better be as good as they played Sunday because the offense sure is terrible.

I think Cantwell is better also than he showed in this game. You can give him a break but not Hartline? He started his first game at UL and was limited on the play calls they made.He will only get better and if not there are a couple of QBs that will be coming in next year to replace him.I think he will improve though.Remember all the other receivers except Lyons are new and have no experience either.Makes a difference and will improve with time.:thumb:

UK fans in this thread are killing Cantwell and acting like Hartline played pretty well. My point was Cantwell played a bad game but we have seen him play better then this. However Hartline showed me nothing to make me think there is hope there.
September 2, 200818 yr I thought Hartlines decision making was pretty good for the most part. I guess for us UK fans hearing that Cantwell was as good as Brohm took a little pride in how bad our defense made him look. He had some drops, but when you throw it 100mph at a reciever 5 yards from you it's probably going to get dropped.

I agree that Hartline made some good decisions and didn't really make many stupid mistakes. But at the same time when you can't hit a receiver that is at 12-15 yards and no defender within 5 yards I just don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling.
September 2, 200818 yr Hopefully he'll improve, I've seen some pretty good Auburn teams where it was all the QB could do to give a hand off. I'm sure nerves had something to do with it, and he also had a couple of drops.
