September 1, 200818 yr What happened to Cantwell? All I was hearing from (some) UL fans was he was ready for this, his turn to shine, he's got experience... The Cards have to develop some sort of running game or it will be a long year. All the hype about Cantwell being a top NFL pick seems to have put undue pressure on someone who has just started 4 games in the previous 3 seasons. The good news for the Cards is their defense played much better than last year.
September 1, 200818 yr I agree with Alabama Larry. I've seen punt returners have much less room to catch a punt. I thought UK got a big break there, and this is coming from a big UK fan.
September 1, 200818 yr Bunch of excuses? I only brought up the bad call. I heard Tom Leach/Paul Rogers as I listen to the radio and they agreed. I didn't hear the TV guys. Game over, whats done is done. I'll move on, we have Tulane and Western Ky. in my future. TV guys thought it was a good call.
September 1, 200818 yr Seriously, I think UL will be fine. I think they struggled because I honestly feel UK has one of the better defenses in the SEC this year. I think that is why Cantwell struggled, but that is just my opinion. I really cant see UK getting blown out too much this year if there defense shows up. Great win CATS!
September 1, 200818 yr Author Now why is it you are so positive about Ashland in the Ashland -Raceland thread, but so negative about Louisville? :sssh: I think that Ashland has better chance of making a good season out of it than Louisville does. I also like Ashland a lot better than U.L.
September 1, 200818 yr Let's face it - U of L scored 2 points (TWO) and UK gave those points to the Cards. I don't think that call made too much of a difference.
September 1, 200818 yr Let's face it - U of L scored 2 points (TWO) and UK gave those points to the Cards. I don't think that call made too much of a difference. That call made a huge difference. It would have game louisville the ball on like the 20 only down by 8 at the time.
September 1, 200818 yr Let's face it - U of L scored 2 points (TWO) and UK gave those points to the Cards. I don't think that call made too much of a difference. It was only 10-2 at the time, and it would have given UofL the ball at UK's 20 yard line or so. You never know what might have happened. Bad calls are part of the game though, and it is not the reason UofL lost.
September 1, 200818 yr That call made a huge difference. It would have game louisville the ball on like the 20 only down by 8 at the time. The other two times that U of L had the ball in that area, they had a FG blocked and got stuffed on a 4th and 1. Nothing was guaranteed and their offense was/is terrible.
September 1, 200818 yr Let's face it - U of L scored 2 points (TWO) and UK gave those points to the Cards. I don't think that call made too much of a difference. First of all, it was a bad call. Watch the replay. Bilal Powell was backing up away from Lyons Jr., and Dicky dropped the ball. And it did make a difference..They would have had the ball at the 20 with a chance to tie it. Was that the reason UL lost? Absolutely not. Their dreadful offensive performance was, but that certainly had an affect on the out come of the game.

That play would have been a huge swing of emotions. You never know what their offense could have done in that situation. Heck throw it up to the 6'8" kid three times in the endzone. UK didn't have much of an answer when they threw it up to him and actually got it high enough.

I thought it was a questionable call that could of gone either way. Lyons did drop the ball, was he prevented from catching it clean.. ? who know's... Ive seen alot of guys get closer then that and not get it called. The way the call went def hurt UL.

Now, you just have to give the returner an opportunity to catch the ball, which obviously happened, because he dropped the punt...

Game over, whats done is done. I'll move on, we have Tulane and Western Ky. in my future. The ball was inches away from the UL player's helmet... the only reason it wasn’t an obvious call was because Lyons tried to avoid contact and a sure fumble by fielding the ball with his arms/hands instead of tucking it into his body, no doubt he was interfered with...
September 1, 200818 yr Just got in from the game. Some things I saw.... 1.) Louisville fans must be in the best shape of any college fans in America. I have never seen tailgating spread out over so much territory. I could have swore I saw some going on in Oklona. There were people and parked cars everywhere. 2.) Kentucky's defense was stout. Flew to the ball and the secondary made some nice plays. 3.) Louisville's pass blocking did a good job. I thought Jeff Adams did a good job blocking Jarmon all day. 4.) Both quarterbacks need to work on accuracy. a lot of bad passes. 5.) The UK Cheerleaders don't like it when the UK dance team gets the face time from the ESPN cameras. Quit wearing turtlenecks in 90 degree weather and you'll get on TV more 6.) There was one Louisville cheerleader for every Louisville player. 7.) On the Lyons return, it appeared as if the Louisville player may have entered the halo before the ball neared Lyons and then backed out. I was 20 yards from the play and thought UK got a huge break. 8.) Kragthorpe was not pleased with the quick snap from the sideline huddle by UK that caused UL to be hit with a substitution penalty and extend the UK drive. He said UK had 13 players in their huddle. 9.) It was good to meet Jim Schue. Nice shirt. 10.) Based on what Cantwell did today, he isn't among the best five QBs in America as some have said. Tried to force it too much in the fourth quarter. 11.) Tim Masthay will be a huge weapon for UK on kickoffs. Wow. 12.) UL needs to take Powell off the kickoff return team. He doesn't run. He catches the ball, jogs and waits for the wedge to open a hole. When he sees the hole, he's getting tackled from the side. Toooooooo slooooooooooooow. 13.) The NCAA doesn't need to look at the teams and refs when wondering why college games take so long. And it has nothing to do with the rules in place. There are too many TV timeouts and they are way too long. 14.) I can't see Uk beating the upper tier teams the way they ran the football today. Yuk.
