Everyone knows why they moved from Rose Hill to Scott Co. I am happy to see this happen.

The problem with the transfer rules, as written, is that the KHSAA, and specifically, Brigid DeVries have WAY to much discretion. The rules are also very tough. In each transfer case, there are only two outcomes.... eligible or ineligible. If students are ruled eligible they can move from one school to the next and not even miss one regular scheduled event. If they are ruled inelgilble, they have to sit out an entire year in all sports. I feel that this is a way to steep penalty to place on young children that only have 4 years in HS. There has been many cases that kids lives have been destroyed by this ruling (inability to play = inablity to get college scholarships). I feel that all the transfer by-laws need to be thrown out. There are too many loop-holes, and ways for some districts to "get-around" the rules. Also, the KHSAA has lost all credibility in the issues as most feel that some schools are given "the benefit of the doubt". It is a common opinion that some schools/districts have influence within the KHSAA and can make things happen in transfer situations. I know of one school that up until this season had never had a student ruled inelgible. That is totally amazing.

Your always eligible somewhere...Im guessing Rose Hill, until a legit residence change not due to athletic purposes.

 

Does the KHSAA expect him to commute to Rose Hill from Georgetown?

Finally the KHSAA is punishing a large name recognition school.

 

No, the kid is being punished. It will not have that big of effect on Scott Co...............they still get to play and he doesn't.

Or how about adults who are ruining a kids game by trying to find ways to make their kids supposedly instant winners by transferring to schools they perceive as powerhouses.

 

HS athletics is not supposed to be about teenage free agent athletes, like it has become.

This post is right on the money. IMO AAU ball promotes this free agent, it's all about me attitude.

Well, what can you say? There are those in the Ashland area that are still bitter and have hard feelings about Euton's older brother Arbaugh transferred to Ashland and took most of the limelight. Some feeling are hard to swallow. Some are able to rise above that.

 

For what it's worth, I think that they will overturn this ruling and we'll see young Euton in uniform for Scott Co. this season. I wish him the best considering he's a teenage young man who is very respectful, not to mention talented. I pray that I'm never bitter enough to have spite deep in my soul so as to clap to the heavens in hopes that a young man can't achieve his goals and dreams.

Did Euton ever attend SC or have roots there? BIG difference when a kid has attended the school in middle school and was FORCED to move because a parent got a better job. The mother must have liked the Covington school system or she wouldn't have put her kids back in their ORIGINAL school when her job was cut and she got another one. NEXT.

 

Seriously it's a shame the kid may not be able to play but it's his parents fault, mainly his dad's for opening his mouth. I've said from day 1 I thought the MOVE was legit but the school chosen was for athletic purposes. As LABS said in an earlier post, Dakota's dad violated several rules with his comments which is the reason for the ruling.

 

Scott Co finally got burned. End of story. When you have 4 transfers coming in the same year, it's going to wave red flags. Euton just happened to be the one who didn't go about it the right way.(NO I'm not saying they recruited the kid.) Shotwell was also ruled ineligible. Why is nobody speaking about that? The KHSAA obviously has more information on the matter than what we know otherwise they wouldn't have made the ruling.

 

Hasn't Holmes also had 4 transfers within a year (Nelson, Johnson brothers, Housley)?

 

High school ball is becoming more and more like AAU ball, where the powerhouses attract more and more of the best athletes.

I agree! I see this going to court and Euton being ruled eligible. The courts will look and see that is was a bona fide change of residence, they sold their home in Ashland and bought one in Georgetown, end of story, overturned, he will be eligible.

 

The dad worked for Woolpert, Inc., until it closed its Ashland office. He has since taken a job with CMTA Engineering in Lexington.

 

So now the KHSAA won't allow people who lose their jobs to move and have their kids eligible for sports?

 

I agree with you SportsGuy that this will go to court and the KHSAA ruling will be overturned. When this happens, the KHSAA will have egg on it's face again. The By-Laws are an absolute joke.

I wonder if the bylaw means

 

#1 You can't simply leave a school and transfer to another one because of athletics, but if you have a legit reason for leaving you are free to go anywhere you want even if you go based partly on athletics

 

OR

 

#2 Even if you have a legit reason for leaving a school (like job loss) you can't pick your new school based on athletics.

 

IF it is #1 then he should be eligible if it is #2 then he is in trouble.

I think this will get reversed, if the father lost his job, and they have a legitimate change of address, then he has every right to find the best possible fit for his son.
