Harrison County 6 Scott 1

Recommended Posts

Scott had a good season, but lets not kid ourselves, they had a cake walk to the finals. This was clearly the year to be runner up in the 37th district, based on how the draw played out.

The only thing anyone should be not happy with is the fact that Scott was suppposed to host the tourney and they didnt. How long is it going to take to get the concessions and restroom facilities ready when the building has been there for 4 years. The gas money spent by the parents from Scott and Campbell County would have been able to pay for this. Not only that but to give the team with the best pitcher home field advantage was like feeding pigeons to a hawk ( no pun intended ). If the school isnt doing enough to finish the job the parents need to be the voice of concern. If they have their own swimming facilities then whats the problem finishing this job.

The home field was a plus to Harrison County this year and Coach Whitaker acknowledged that in his post game interview. However, with the youth this team has, the next 2 years they may be able to win the region anywhere. Good luck to the Thorobreds as they play West Jessamine.

The Kenton County Schoolboard has been the problem. That concession stand/press box/team room/rest room was totally funded by the baseball team's parents, boosters and coaches until the end of last season. Then, the school board in a weak moment of generosity decided they would buy the doors for the place, only because the the rest of the structure would not deteriorate. They have taken on the rest of it as of this year, but couldn't seem to get it done in time for this season. Parents and coaches have searched for donations of money, materials and services over the years. Most of the structure was built by parents with the exception of brick work and electrical. It has been a 4-5 year project.

It started out to be a $30,000 project with a lot of the materials, including the brick and lumber being dotated. When the school board got wind of it, they insisted the brick must match that of the school. All of a sudden, it was fast becoming a $70,000 project. Then, Fisher Homes offered to furnish the materials and build it if they could store some building materials on Scott's property (by the bus storage lot) for a given amount of time while they finished development of a local subdivision. Again, the school board said no. Is it any wonder why people despise elected officials and politicians like they do?

Don't throw all the blame, on the School Board. Keep in mind, any additions to a school facility and KDE will get involved, mandate specifications for code and compliance, to other entities. Plus Title IX, will have a say.....

There are other things, as well. Respectfully, we just disagree.
