Somebody from JCHS please refresh our memory on this issue.

 

Didn't it involve one kid who had lived in Johnson Co previously but had moved to McCreary? Co maybe several years ago? Then last year the family transfered back to JC and the kid was cleared by the KHSAA.

 

Then, after another local school filed a complaint, the KHSAA investigated and found that the kid wasn't living where his paperwork said he was?

 

I'd say JC won't being saying much about this one.

 

This one of those "the cat is in the bag and the bag is in the river" stories.

Honestly, I have heard rumors of this for a couple months in Johnson County but glad it is out for discussion. A real black eye to the football program.

Did they have to forfeit any of their games?

I remember in 2006 they had some studs on the team that were not from Johnson County, rather they had moved in. Either one or two of the LB's. I remember people saying on threads that their team was homegrown but in the LHL the next week it exposed where these kids were from, not purposely but I didn't happen to recall that.

The Johnson Central football program has been penalized and placed on probation for the 2008-09 school year. The program was found to have violated KHSAA recruitment and transfer rules (Bylaws 4 & 10).

 

The KHSAA also suspended Head Coach Jim Matney for the first two regular season contests of the 2008 season. As part of the ruling, the school was fined $1,000 and required to pay $1,500 in restitution for the cost of the investigation.

Does suspended mean Coach Matney can coach his team up to game day and then leave the team in the hands of the assistants?

 

This is not the first time Coach Matney has been suspended from a game by the KHSAA. He was suspended from a game back in 1994 or 1995 at Sheldon Clark for voicing his opinions about a referee crew on WYMT. Heck he might have been valid in those complaints and I'm sure that Coach learned his lesson from that ordeal and will serve the punishment the KHSAA has seen fit to this new situation.

Johnson County is growing as much or more than any part in EKY, so kids moving in shouldn't raise flags. The key to that sentence is MOVING.

 

 

This ordeal is about moving, renting homes, not same address.

A ton of people, including Coach Matney has explained the situation to me and a few friends, IMHO the school didn't break any rules, but there were some things the KHSAA just didn't like.

Is it true the kid was living in a house that Matney owned?

I thought $100K was the free hat and t-shirt budget.

 

Also, what about siblings attending different high schools but living in the same household. Maybe its legal, but seems strange to have siblings attending different schools.

This hurts if you are a JC fan. The suspension isn't really bad but the pride is going to take a hit.

I don't know the situation in Johhnson County. But, in Jefferson County, it's not at all unusual for siblings to attend different schools.
