With open enrollment, kids have the ability to choose the school they'd like to attend, if that school has a magnet that interests them, and if the school has room for them.

 

So, it's not unusual to have a kid going to Manual, and another kid to Male. There are even families that have a kid at a public school, and another in a private school.

This ordeal is about moving, renting homes, not same address.

A ton of people, including Coach Matney has explained the situation to me and a few friends, IMHO the school didn't break any rules, but there were some things the KHSAA just didn't like.

Well, it would be nice if someone in the know would reveal the details ... then we could all decide.

Happens from time to time here in Nelson County, as there are three HS choices available. I know a fellow who sent his daughter to Nelson Co. HS, where she plays volleyball/basketball/softball, while her younger brother plays football and baseball at Bethlehem, the Catholic school here in town.

I understand your comments in regards to Jefferson Co. However, you are comparing an apple to a bowling ball.

Or in Lexington. There have been students in the same family where one goes to a Private school, and others go to public schools. There are even families where one sibling went to Lexington Catholic, and one went to Lexington Christian Academy.

It happens in Knox County. A daughter may go to Barbourville. A son in the same family, if he wanted to play football, would need to go to Knox Central. Until recently they were only two blocks apart. AP classes vary from school to school also.

Did they have to forfeit any of their games?

I remember in 2006 they had some studs on the team that were not from Johnson County, rather they had moved in. Either one or two of the LB's. I remember people saying on threads that their team was homegrown but in the LHL the next week it exposed where these kids were from, not purposely but I didn't happen to recall that.

 

Micheal Tackett was from Magoffin Co., about a 15 minute drive, he arrived as a freshman and Blake Johnson transfered to JC from Flemining Neon as a sophomore, both under the Bill Tom Ross Era. Mute point. Johnson County's school system as a whole is one of the better public systems in our area period. Many kids, athletes or not, travel to Johnson Co. to get an education.

Well Johnson moved to Johnson Co. from Fleming Neon as a sophomore but Tackett did live outside Johnson Co. but started JC as a Freshman.

Tackett stayed close to home and went to Pikeville College. Johnson didnt go to college that I am aware of.

Also, what about siblings attending different high schools but living in the same household. Maybe its legal, but seems strange to have siblings attending different schools.
