Bishop Brossart defends their 2007 All "A" Classic State Championship today as they take on the Lexington Christian Academy Eagles.

 

Lexington Christian started off with intense pressure against the Mustangs. The Eagles started out on a 7 point run before Brossart came back and pulled within 1 at 11-10 with under a minute to go in the first. LCA led after one, 13-10

 

Brossart tied the game at 13 with a Greg Stortz bucket and one at the 5:38 mark in the second. LCA kept up their pressure as a 4 point game went into the locker room, LCA 24-20. Brossart shot 38.9 from the field compared to 39.1 for LCA. The difference in the first half, 10 turnovers to LCA's 5 and the 13-3 LCA advantage with points off those turnovers.

 

LCA fired up the offense again in the third quarter, but Brossart came right back tying the game and taking a 33-32 lead with 1:39 to go in the quarter. The first lead of the day for the Mustangs. LCA came back with a couple of quick buckets to take the lead back going into the final eight minutes, 38-35.

 

Brossart was unable to score a field goal until the 2:23 left mark in the quarter when Joe Webb hit a big three pointer to pull within three points. As the game drew closer to the end, Brossart had to foul to get the ball back. LCA went 6 for 7 down the stretch from the line in the quarter.With 32.6 seconds left, LCA walked giving the Mustangs the ball. Mitch Patterson drained a three to pull within 1 at 50-49. A Zach Hertzenberg foul put Tyler Townsend on the line who made one. With 5.6 seconds left, Mitch Patterson drained his second three pointer giving Brossart the lead 52-51. Trace Helton for LCA committed an intentional foul that put Joe Webb to the line who hit 1 of 2. That put Brossart up 53-51. LCA fouled again putting Jacob Rieger at the the line for two. Jacob made them both and Bishop Brossart advances with the 55-51 final. Brossart went on an 11-1 run to close out the game.

 

The game Friday will be a re-match from last year, as the Mustangs will again face University Heights.
