I am not downing Highlands in any way because they have a great program but in no way has Highlands dominated Belfry when they have met. The last two meetings consisted of Highlands beating Belfry in overtime in the state semi-finals and Belfry beating Highlands the next year by the score of 35-7.

How far is Belfry? Heck we have a two year with Hopkinsville. Is Belfry further than that?

I've had the pleasure to watch both teams this season on more than one occasion. If Belfry and Highlands lined it up this year.....honestly, the game would be a toss up.

Geographcially speaking, Belfry is at a disadvantage in the aspect of scheduling. Lots of teams would play us, and would benefit from the experience & the gate because Belfry travels well.

 

But hardly anyone in the state will sign a home-and-home with us because of the travel to Belfry.

 

I think someone said it earlier, but I'd love to play the kind of schedule Central has even if we had the same record. That can only make you better if you go out there and put it on the line every Friday.

 

If this year's Belfry team played the same schedule, we'd probably be 10-4 at worst & hopefully 11-3. I'm saying that because we did beat Johnson Central, and with an optimistic view that we could have pulled off at least one other win. But it wouldn't surprise me any if Belfry hand an identical record playing Central's schedule.

That is the best way to describe the heart and soul of the Belfry Pirate football team, the big guys up front, also known as the offensive line.

 

So many times the media and fans often talk about every player but the offensive line. But rest assured their success rarely goes unnoticed by the coaching staff, players, and the victims lined up across from them.

 

Coming into the season, the line was a point of concern for the Pirates coaching staff. While talking with Philip Haywood before the season began, he noted that the Pirates had many new faces on a very young and inexperienced line.

I'd give the edge to Breathitt, but their schedule wasn't exactly loaded, either.

 

That's putting it kindly. Prestonsburg and Boyd County were pretty much it for Breathitt County. Not exactly murderer's row in my view. I think the win at Russell did a lot to validate Breathitt's season.

 

There's really no comparison to be made between Belfry and Central schedule-wise...St. X, Manual, Male, Highlands...that is brutal.

You know, cheer for who you want, I totally support that as I have said all week. I don't understand the heavy sarcasm, though. Nobody has called them almighty and powerful and nobody has looked down upon Central. And keep in mind that most of the predictions for a blowout have come from non Belfry folks.

 

Most of us know just how tough this game will be and the Pirates will have to play extremely well to have a shot. We know how tough they played Highlands. Central also shut down St X running game for crying out loud and the Tigers had to beat them through the air, right? I respect the heck out of that, and those who are expecting a pushover will be surprised.

Besides if you play a really good EKY team they'll bang the insides out of you before the game is over win or lose. Its almost like a heavy weight fight. There is no quit in the teams from this side of the state....Call it Pride or whatever the Louisville Central team is about to take a punch right square in the chops this Friday.

LC did lose against X and Highlands. But they proved they belonged on the same field, giving Highlands all they wanted and staying close to X for a half. The final against X was 35-7, which is the same margin X defeated semi-finalist Meade last week 31-3. These Yellow Jackets are very physical. If you think they're going to roll over because they've never been hit as hard as the Belfry boys can hit, well...you're sadly mistaken. Belfry may win this, and they could win big if Central turns it over a few times, but it won't be because they're intimidated by Belfry's physicality.

Amen. I haven't read the first post by a pure Belfry fan who thinks this game will be anything other than a war. I full well expect one.

Sheer numbers certainly suggests that more "Belfry faithful" and opposing fans who are loyal to Eastern Ky post here and are showing wall to wall support for the Pirates.....thus explaining to an extent why very few if any "Central will blow them out" posts.

 

And while I do agree that some here are underestimating Central and their accomplishments..... I believe SOME here underestimate Belfry and their abilities on the field. I don't know who'll win this game......but I'm sure it'll be a barn burner. I guess all the talkin' ends Friday.
