I understand and appreciate the Monkey on the Back term about being to and losing the last two state games in a row. However, I said it before and will say it again. Dale lost to BG in his first trip to the State Championship game and I don't think that he has forgotten that. Talk about a monkey! That's a monkey that's been hanging there for over ten years. I think out of all games ever played at HHS as coach, Dale wants this win most of all. It will provide a little retribution to one of I believe only two losses ever at a state title game for HHS. Does anyone agree with that?

So you agree that this game is weighing a little in the back of Dale's mind? I think if you're anyone that has been involved in sports in any way, when you lose in a title game to someone, you never forget that. Ask Billy Jack Haskins. That guy played the title game of his life, but he just couldn't do it all by himself. He kicked an 81 yard punt in that game and at the time was the longest punt in KHSAA Championships history. That guy was just amazing. I hear he is coaching, good for him. He was an amazing athlete. If you asked him who he lost to in his regular season games, he may not be able to tell you the teams that he lost to in his career during the regular season. If you ask him who they lost to at State in 92, it will come out like an unwanted involuntary reflex.

 

I hope that all of our coaches, players, cheerleaders, parents and all of the behind the scenes people are prepping for the game of their life. This is your last chance seniors, don't pass up on something that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Should be a barnburner! I hope the Bluebirds are as focus as they have been the last couple of weeks. I think they're overlooking, just look what they have done to these other teams. All the hype and a couple of turnovers could change the game quick. but highlands should outlast BG. H-34 BG-17

I got to watch some game tape of BG last night. They look to be a good team with speed and some good size. I notice that several player's go both ways. The last few team's that HHS played tryed this also. Hope that Highlands conditioning pay's off in the game. How many play both way'?(Qb,RB,TE,WR's, and a couple of linemen were the one's I saw)

Not sure if the numbers are in line with recent classes, however I do think that keeping the freshmen practicing separately is something new. In the past, the freshmen were at the Varsity practices throughout the playoffs, even though they didn's have an active part. Currently, they are totally separate, except for being able to dress on Friday. We'll see what kind of committment they have come off-season conditioning and spring football in preparation for JV.

I can assure you that last year, the Frosh took a very active part in the varsity practices after they got moved up. My younger son got a real introduction to varsity football serving on the scout team trying to block Kidwell, Ashton, Stine, Ball, Hurtt and Fitz. A real, yet somewhat painful, introduction.

I stand corrected re: the participation in practices for the playoffs last year. Which makes me wonder why the separate practices this year?

I also watched the tape and was particularly impressed withtheir QB. Size, speed, good arm, good scrambler...3 yr starter so I'll assume he's also very poised. Recievers looked very dangerous 84 & 8 like the slants over the middle. QB puts it up where the 6'6'' guy can get it. Also like to hit the back out in the flats. They run fake punts, and tried a double reverse (penalty killed it before it developed). Line likes the tight splits. Their defense has good size across the front and seemed to get a great push upfield. LB's roamed very well sideline to sideline and liked to "bring the wood". We got our hands full Friday!!
