I think to look back at the last two times the Purples were on the carpet would be very unfair to these young men and coaches. These are young men who have grown over the years and the new guys on the team have learned from them. The coaching staff have really worked hard to make sure that these guys grew and see their true potential.

As others have stated before, the Purples have to come ready to play...no case of bad nerves allowed! However, BG has proven that they can come behind to win a game. Instead of giving up, this team pulls together to get the job done. They only look at one game at a time and don't get caught up in polls or rankings. These guys are very mature and are ready to bring home the title!

 

The Birds are a great team also. They would blow us away and stomp our heads if their fans were playing....however, our fans are just as energetic as theirs are....we just keep it to ourselves and let the score and boys to our talking for us. With the Birds being as good as they are and BG being as good as they are, this is going to be a close game where both teams young men will be worn out afterword. This is the type of game I don't like to see played. Where both teams deserve the win and only one can walk out with it.

 

IMO, BG will walk out with the win, I will have another panic attack and think about going to the hospital (LOL), and both teams can hold their heads up really high!!!!!

I know its going to be very cold Friday night; I just hope its windy and raining too. Nothing like trying to execute the passing game in bad weather:D

I'm going with the Birds in this one . They will be too much for the Purples to handle . Heck they might have too much for the Bengals to handle !!!

I have had a chance to see both teams play several times this year, BGHS a few more times than HHS. Here is how I would rate the two teams by positions. OFFENSE: Quarterbacks/ BG has a three year starter who runs and throws equally well. Steelman tends to thrive on making big plays when pass blocking breaks down. He also will run several Quarterback draws and a bootleg or two often for big gains. I'd say this position is about equal between the two teams. Receivers/ Bghs has the edge here with two D-1 recruits, a 6'6'' wideout and 6'5'' TE. Both are very hard to keep in check. The other two or three receivers don't get many opportunities to make plays but do a nice job of holding down field blocks and making catches when needed. Runningbacks/ Probably a draw between HHS and BG. BGHS has the usuall trio of outstanding backs with two power backs and a third shifty/quick back. All three catch the ball well and tend to get several passes per game usually as a safety valve in the flats. Offensive line/ Big advantage to HHS. Probably one of the best units I've ever seen. BGHS's O-line has improved greatly during the course of the season but will probably have difficulty with the Birds quickness. Kicking/ Punting/ Have to give a slight edge to HHS. BGHS has a very reliable extra point kicker (54 straight PAT'S) but has struggled with the few field goals that have been attempted. He will also kick the ball in the end zone about 50% of the time. Punting is equally scary for both teams, probably a product of offenses that rarely punt. DEFENSE/ Defensive line / HHS has the edge with their quickness and depth. Dale seems to be able to rotate at least six different players over three down lineman with no drop in talent. Linebackers/ edge to HHS although BGHS has one outstanding linebacker(Carpenter) who signed with Northwestern to play strong safety. At 5'10'' and about 195# he's extemely quick and aggressive but too small to play a D-1 linebacker. Defensive backs/ Probably a draw. Somewhat concerned about HHS pass defense especially with the size of BGHS's two D-1 caliber receivers. The big wideout goes both ways playing safety on defense. Sorry if that was a little long winded. If both teams play a perfect game( minimal turnovers,no huge special teams blunders or plays), I think HHS should win by 7 to 14 points. Everyone knows perfect games don't usually happen, but I just don't see BGHS holding HHS's running game to under 21 points. If BGHS has a weakness it's defending the run. On the other hand, I don't see BGHS scoring more than 21 on HHS's Defense although BGHS probably has the best passing game the Birds will have seen all year, and if the birds have a weakness on defense it's defending the pass. This should be a great game and if the birds should happen to not bring home number 17 I'm moving back to zip code 41075. I still haven't gotten over the loss in 1995 to the purples.

Hate is a pretty strong word. I actually have a lot of purple friends and do enjoy going to the games to support their kids. I am also a high school football addict and enjoy watching good football. BGHS plays the best football in western kentucky. I must admit my purple friends haven't been to happy when I predicted the final score to within 7 points in their last to state final appearances. Like I said earlier, I expect this to be a much closer game and feel the purples have the talent to win .

Yes, all my "purple friends" kids are out of district but they are still dear friends. If the county school system and the KHSAA don't have a problem with it I guess I shouldn't either. I vowe to never post again about where a kid should attend school based on where they live. Now a question about how game films are obtained from opposing teams. Do the coaches send the opposing coach only the films they want the other team to see or do coaches request what game film they would like to have. If I'm Dale, I want to see the John Hardin film. In my opinion JH had the best game plan to stop BGHS's well balanced attack. In particular how they took D.L Moore out of the game and how they put pressure on the quarterback. It was kind of like a controlled rush with kids staying in their lanes not allowing Steelman to run wild and make big plays but still providing enough pressure to make him think twice about passing. If I'm Wallace I want to see the LexCath-HHS film. LexCath offense and personnel are very similiar in balance and talent to BGHS. I thought LexCath passed the ball very effectively against HHS they just couldn't catch the ball. BGHS will catch the ball!

It should be a classic game and I wouldn't be at all surprised if, when it's all said and done next week, this game is the best of the 6 state championship games.

 

Maybe we had better wait until the conclusion of all of the games before this statement is made. No question that both schools have the premier programs in their Divisions. Most impressed with BG when they traveled to St. Matthews and their effort in that game. Get the distinct feeling that the good HHS folks don't care much for the Rocks, so with all that being said -

Well now the out of district thing can be a little different. I know that we also have kids that play at Owensboro that live out of district, but in those cases these kids either have parents that are teachers or have been in the schools system since middle school. If a kid just goes during his high school years that is a problem.

 

We were in the Owensboro district and moved before my son started 6th grade and believe it or not that is when he started playing football. But the middle school he went to told him he could not play on the football team as a 6th grader because he had never played football before. But there were other 6th graders playing that had.

 

Stupid rule; so we decided going into his 7th grade year that we would pay the tuition and send him back to the school he came from. That school would never tell a kid he could not play--because he never has. That turned out to be the best decision we ever made. He is now making good grades works hard in school and on the field, has a coach that cares and was welcomed with open arms this year as a fresman on a varsity football team full of upper classmen.

 

To see that other school struggle at my son's position made me feel that much better. Not a punch really at that other school, but all they had to do was give this kid a chance as a 6th grader instead of telling him no, and we may very well still be there. Would have been easier on us as parents, but you do what is best for your kid and in this situation I think we made the right choice.

 

Oh, and back to the game. PH and Mrs. PH you guys have been great to talk with this year and we will do it again next year. Now go kick some BIRDS butts at the pizza palace next week, because they already have enough titles. I sure wish the Moore kid would go to UK. Having season tickets there, I would really like to see how he develops in the next 4 years of college.

Another class act up there in Owensboro! We definitely want a chance to meet you and your son someday. I'm glad that your son got to talk with Max last night! Max is a great kid with a super attitude. He's missed only one PAT in his career, and he only wants to get better! His name will be in two places in the KHSAA Record Book after the season is done! Yet he will talk with a fellow kicker and wish him well in his career. Automatic Max makes us proud! He never misses a chance to talk with us at halftime and to swap skin with me as he enters and exits the playing field!

As a Highlands fan I'm really shocked by the blowout predictions although I don't think they're always made by one of our own. Any team that plays Trinity close is not about to be blown out by anybody. I'll go with HHS 20-14.
