Covington Catholic 83 Holmes 33 (35th District Semifinals)
Playing with and against the Holmes teams of the late 70's (Beal , Davis and Walton), seeing a score like this makes me really sad. Hope Holmes gets back to their former elite status.

Warren Central 70 Greenwood 48
Thought I had seen where Greenwood had played Friday and Saturday night, so 3 games in 4 days . Didn't appear to have Central's depth. Centrals pressure was unrelenting and game just got out of control. Kind of like how the draw played out. Had a son who played on the 2012 Greenwood team . Same deal . 3 way tie with coinflip resulting in Greenwood/WC semifinal at Central. Didn't work out well for the Gators.

Warren Central 70 Greenwood 48
Hadn't been to a High School game in several years but decided to go Monday mainly just to see if the Greenwood hype was real. Nice team but came away really impressed with Central . Curious if that was a typical game physicality wise. I've seen less contact in football games. Greenwood struggled to finish with all the contact. District games will be a war.

Highlands 21 Bowling Green 18
BG’’s TD In the first half was the result of the horse collar on 3rd and forever. Allowed BG to retain possession. Otherwise HIghlands would of gotten ball back with 4 minutes or so . Still almost scored getting the ball back with under a minute. Doesn’t count as a fumble or INT but same result.

Highlands 21 Bowling Green 18
Been MIA for several years . Kind of a “If you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all kind of guy”. Went to game just hoping for a competitive outing by the Birds but felt they’d probably lose badly. Saw a team that was disciplined, tackled well in space and had a solid game plan and play calling in general. Truly excited for these boys . They have bought in and deserve it . Thought it would take a few years to right the ship . Congrats to all involved. Full strength team will be a lot of fun to watch!

Thanks for updates . Keep them coming

Covington Catholic 21 Highlands 14
Haven’t posted in a long time. Great game by both teams. Have been hesitant to even think the Birds are back. After tonight I feel confident they are contenders again . Highlands passes the look test this year with speed and decent size . Play hard and fly to the ball on defense. Just a few plays from pulling off a big win although I think this game now has them thinking they can play with anybody in 5A. Happy alum tonight! Big thanks to whomever allows us to watch these games live . Haven’t missed a game all year. Needed a little Dramamine after tonights feed though.

Bowling Green 79 Greenwood 71 (OT)
So how does a coach handle that situation when the kid is an important piece of a potential state champion caliber team. Tough situation. Hate to penalize a kid for a rash decision made by a parent.

Bowling Green 79 Greenwood 71 (OT)
Probably depends on the coach. Both brothers warmed up for the game. The older brother wasn't in the starting lineup so it appeared their mother marched over and took them home. Just packed up and left. Never seen anything like it. Another odd development, Greenwood was up 1, got fouled and then technical on BG. Missed front end of bonus and hit one of the two technical shots. So Greenwood up 2 with about 30 seconds. Believe Wison fouled and converts with 10 seconds . Misses FT but BG gets rebound. Gwood gets steal and kid is off for a layup but then suddenly takes a Uturn and runs out to 3 point line. Heard from player on the team the kid who stole ball thought they were up 1 but the game was tied. Greenwood gets beat easily in OT. Fun game and great atmosphere.

St. Xavier or Bowling Green, which program has been more dominant the last ten years?
Sorry, don't have those numbers and like I said they would very greatly by sport. Girls volleyball , soccer, and softball may be higher on higher end. Boys golf and baseball also may be on the higher end. Football and Basketball probably lower end and depends on factors I don't need or want to dwell on. If 25 percent , don't know exact number but based on DF out of district numbers, then the numbers aren't that far fetched.

BG gets a big boost academically in that historically they get about 90 percent of the students from the K-8 private schools in BG in particular ST. josephs . One bone of contention from the county administrators was the priority list that BG uses placing the private school children high on that list. BG junior high test scores are pretty average but there is a nice jump at the High School level. Whether that is from an infusion of the private schools kids or an upgrade in instruction it's hard to say. Whether true or not, the county legal brief in the first hearing stated the average GPA of out of district students was 3.24 and in district was 2.59. It also stated 23 of the past 40 top ten in class for past 4 years were out of district students. Don't know how they obtained GPA's and probably don't want to know but these were the numbers they presented.

St. Xavier or Bowling Green, which program has been more dominant the last ten years?
I would like to add that when county residents say they pay tuition to attend Bowling Green out of district , they are actually paying an administrative fee set by the Bowling Green school system. At one time the fee was somewhere in the 180 dollar range but I think it may be around 300 dollars. Actual out of district tuition for nearly every other school system in the state is around 4000 dollars. The current fee to attend BG city schools is hardly prohibitive for most families. I know a lot of families who attend BG who would and easily could afford the 4000 dollar tuition but the thought of actually paying that amount, like nearly every other district in the state, drives them nuts. At no time has the Warren County School system implied that families can't continue to send their children out of district to BG, they just are against the state dollars following these children in the numbers they have had in the past. I'm with DF that the Warren County school board has handled this and several others issues poorly. I whole heartedly endorse DF for school board ! I also feel BG has benefitted immensely athletically and academically from the large number of out of students attending the school system for a relatively low financial cost. Other than private schools, I doubt there is another school in the state that fields teams with up to 30- 40 percent, depending on the sport, that are out of district kids. Still have to admire the run they've made in football the last 3-4 years.

McCallie (TN) 21 Bowling Green 20
McCallie coach was very complimentary of the Purples and their program. The officials not so much. Per Bowling Green Daily news. McCallie coach Ralph Potter said. " We had to battle back from a lot of adversity. I've never had a team get that many penalties I'll tell you that. Those are highly questionable. But our kids persevered and fought hard." All in all a very exciting game. Fully expected Bowling Green to run back the kick off with 24 seconds to preserve the steak. Mcyntire and Holt on defense are worth the price of admission. Seeing the 7th and 8th graders walking around the stadium in their jerseys makes me think the future is bright for BG. A bunch of young athletic kids milling about.
