Purples pull out the win. Crump for Greenwood had 38 I believe. Greenwood had chance to win at closing seconds. 4 free throw opportunities only hit 1 on a front end of a 1 and 1 and a tech.

Ah, Kyran Jones didn't play. That makes a big difference. Still, Greenwood has given them two good games.

Was at this game and it was terrific for high school basketball. Greenwood would not lay down, and Crump gave an all out effort and is one great high school player. BG was just too much in overtime though as Greenwood ran out of gas.

Will the Jones brothers be back tonight?

Probably depends on the coach. Both brothers warmed up for the game. The older brother wasn't in the starting lineup so it appeared their mother marched over and took them home. Just packed up and left. Never seen anything like it. Another odd development, Greenwood was up 1, got fouled and then technical on BG. Missed front end of bonus and hit one of the two technical shots. So Greenwood up 2 with about 30 seconds. Believe Wison fouled and converts with 10 seconds . Misses FT but BG gets rebound. Gwood gets steal and kid is off for a layup but then suddenly takes a Uturn and runs out to 3 point line. Heard from player on the team the kid who stole ball thought they were up 1 but the game was tied. Greenwood gets beat easily in OT. Fun game and great atmosphere.

I watched that on the replay. It definitely was crazy. Wilson may have had a chance to block the shot since he was step for step, but you'd have to figure if he knew that the game was tied he would have been pump faking if not going straight up for the shot. Everyone's human and when the adrenaline gets pumping you can forget, but definitely an example of how crucial situational awareness is.

 

Ultimately, the free throw situation is what cost them the game. Crump missing the front end of a bonus, and then Roberts (I believe) hitting only one of two technical shots left them up 2 instead of 5. Then they turned the ball over on the ensuing possession that they got because of the technical. They left potentially 5-6 points off the board because of that. BG would have been compelled to foul if they'd been down 5, but instead were able to play aggressive and force that turnover. The cherry on top was Fee fouling out on that next possession and Wilson hitting the shot for the tie. In both the Franklin-Simpson game and now this we have seen Bowling Green maintain their composure (mostly) while the other team blinked. It's why the Purples are one of the top teams in the state.

Dang, moms came and grabbed them off of the bench? Yeesh......

So how does a coach handle that situation when the kid is an important piece of a potential state champion caliber team. Tough situation. Hate to penalize a kid for a rash decision made by a parent.
