theguru Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 A friend of mine called me recently and said he was having a debate with some friends about which football program has been more dominant the last ten years. Anyone care to offer up an opinion and supporting evidence? Off the top of my head it seems like Bowling Green in a runaway but we are talking the last ten years so that could make a big difference. Anyone?
malachicrunch Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 The word dominant just isn't working here.
PepRock01 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Well BG has more titles in the last 10 years so there's that.

theguru Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Yes Highlands is great, any chance you want to take a stab at the actual question...

LongTimeReader Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 This is a tough one. From '04-'10 I would say X, but from 11-present BG has been better than X. Usually championships/championship appearances are one sign of a top program, so lets look at the numbers: Appearances X - 04, 05, 07, 09 BG - 05,06,07,11,12,13 Championships X - 04 and 09 BG - 11,12,13 Both programs are very good, but in the last 10 years I would have to give the edge to BG, plus BG has a better head-to-head record over the same time period.
kypride Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Since 2003 St.X is 125-31 vs a better schedule. BG is 139-18. Bg has more titles and wins head to head. Calpreps rating says X.
DragonFire Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I think it's Bowling Green by a hair over the last ten years, but with each passing year the scales will tip even more in BG's favor. They're not going away. The level has been raised permanently.

Purple Nation Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 In my humble, yet accurate prediction the Purples have been more dominant than X. The head to head games is what pushed them past the yellow and green. I can assure you that if the Purples are going to get beat by X and most other teams it better be this year or next year. Another run at the streak in two years. You heard it from me first!
malachicrunch Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Yes Highlands is great, any chance you want to take a stab at the actual question... So both teans are .500 in title games. BG has been there more times, so I'm going with BG is the "better" program in the time frame... Oh and I think there was another NKY team that impacted BGs aspirations of "dominance".
Cynical Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I would say BG has been more dominant, but I would also argue, that you would probably only find a handful of coaches who would rather play St. X than BG. The fact that a public school from a smaller city like BG (under 150K) that does not have a metro area to draw from is even in the conversation with a place like X is a testament to what a great system has been built in BG. That's from the top down, with a commitment to being excellent.
