This should be a very good game but I like the Birds chances!

 

Does anyone know the scores of the last 2 championship games BG was in? I have heard they did not play well in those games but I never heard the scores.

I'll tell you right now BG doesn't score 28 on the Birds.....I don't think there is a team in the state that could.....They are the fastest most fundamentally sound team in the state...Bring home #17!!!!!!!

I have had a chance to see both teams play several times this year, BGHS a few more times than HHS. Here is how I would rate the two teams by positions. OFFENSE: Quarterbacks/ BG has a three year starter who runs and throws equally well. Steelman tends to thrive on making big plays when pass blocking breaks down. He also will run several Quarterback draws and a bootleg or two often for big gains. I'd say this position is about equal between the two teams. Receivers/ Bghs has the edge here with two D-1 recruits, a 6'6'' wideout and 6'5'' TE. Both are very hard to keep in check. The other two or three receivers don't get many opportunities to make plays but do a nice job of holding down field blocks and making catches when needed. Runningbacks/ Probably a draw between HHS and BG. BGHS has the usuall trio of outstanding backs with two power backs and a third shifty/quick back. All three catch the ball well and tend to get several passes per game usually as a safety valve in the flats. Offensive line/ Big advantage to HHS. Probably one of the best units I've ever seen. BGHS's O-line has improved greatly during the course of the season but will probably have difficulty with the Birds quickness. Kicking/ Punting/ Have to give a slight edge to HHS. BGHS has a very reliable extra point kicker (54 straight PAT'S) but has struggled with the few field goals that have been attempted. He will also kick the ball in the end zone about 50% of the time. Punting is equally scary for both teams, probably a product of offenses that rarely punt. DEFENSE/ Defensive line / HHS has the edge with their quickness and depth. Dale seems to be able to rotate at least six different players over three down lineman with no drop in talent. Linebackers/ edge to HHS although BGHS has one outstanding linebacker(Carpenter) who signed with Northwestern to play strong safety. At 5'10'' and about 195# he's extemely quick and aggressive but too small to play a D-1 linebacker. Defensive backs/ Probably a draw. Somewhat concerned about HHS pass defense especially with the size of BGHS's two D-1 caliber receivers. The big wideout goes both ways playing safety on defense. Sorry if that was a little long winded. If both teams play a perfect game( minimal turnovers,no huge special teams blunders or plays), I think HHS should win by 7 to 14 points. Everyone knows perfect games don't usually happen, but I just don't see BGHS holding HHS's running game to under 21 points. If BGHS has a weakness it's defending the run. On the other hand, I don't see BGHS scoring more than 21 on HHS's Defense although BGHS probably has the best passing game the Birds will have seen all year, and if the birds have a weakness on defense it's defending the pass. This should be a great game and if the birds should happen to not bring home number 17 I'm moving back to zip code 41075. I still haven't gotten over the loss in 1995 to the purples.

No reason to pick against the Birds now after selecting them as 5A favorite since July. BG will have to take care of the ball to hang with the Birds. My 2 superficial reasons to choose the Birds: 1)I like blue better than purple 2)what is a purple? - a bluebird is a ferocious little pesky feathered friend that can poop in your hair but what the heck is a purple and what can it do to you? Good luck to both teams.

Is Bowling Green any better than they have been the last couple years? They were obviously overhyped the last couple of years based on them hammering the weak teams on their schedule, and then once they played a good team, they got beat around like a pinyatta. I don't see this year as any different.

 

BG had to travel to #3 and #5 in the state, come from behind in both games and still won. THAT my friend is different from past years. I know Highlands is a very good team...(obviously...this board is 3/4 Highlands fans who remind us everyday!!) ...I do feel your playoff journey has been a little easier, playing at home and not sure where the last 2 teams you played were ranked. Anyway...should be a great game. Not too many would pick us, but I am hopeful! You won't see a lot of BG fans on these boards--there's not many that participate. So I'll cast my vote, for whatever it's worth! No matter what I am proud of my Purples. 3 straight years to the state championship is not bad at all (especially after losing 30 seniors last year)

I'm with you on this one. I had a great time with the Bowling Green fans when we played them in 2005 and 2006. They were truly friendly people and outstanding hosts.........GO PURPLES!

What a great scouting report you gave! We thought you were just coming to the BG games because you were supporting the local kids you seem to know so well, but we know now how much you truly hate the Purples! We'll help you pack if we win !:lol: You are right about one thing, it should be a great game.

I have to agree with alot of assessments here. BGreen has layed an egg the last 2 years in the finals. That may be a scary thing also. Alot of these kids have 3 years experience in this game and 3rd time is often a charm. I do think BGs more balanced then they've been the previous 2 years and there schedule has been much improved vs the old 3a format. Trinity, WCentral(twice), WEast, Marshall Co, Boyle Co, NHardin, Owensboro & John Hardin are 9 pretty tough opponents and they havent had the luxery of just going through the motions for 5-6 weeks leading up to the finals, as in years past. In addition, they've actually played better against the better teams. I think they've been dying to get back to this game since last year to redeem themselves and earn some respect. With all this said, this Highlands team may be the best team they've played in the finals thus far. FTH has been a juggernaut all year and have played at a very high level every game. They, too, have played a very challenging schedule and seem prime to bring home another trophy. I think this game will come down to who takes better advantage of the others weaknesses, which aren't many, either way. I think Highlands defensive line and LBs will put alot of pressure on BGs QB and stuff the running game, so, for BG to win they'll have to do alot of rollouts and take advantage of there superior sized receivers and for Highlands to win, they'll have to establish the running game by running right at them and mix in some play action and avoid costly turnovers. I think field position will also play a big roll in the outcome. I'll be rooting for the Purples to earn some respect but in the long run, I think Highlands will take a very close one...FTH 24 BG 21

Hey, I'm old. It was my nephews senior year. He really wants revenge.

 

I remember that game, it was cold and miserable and I had a 7 year old that was so intent on that game and upset afterwards that all he wanted to do was beat the purples.
