2025 Men's NCAA Tournament

I kinda wonder if Cal has Math Dyslexia. His telling a player to intentionally try to miss a free-throw up 3 in the final seconds, when a made shot seals the win. Then refusing to foul up 3 and giving the opposing team 2 free-throws.

I seriously wonder if there is seriously some math dyslexia with Cal.

  • Not fouling up three is always the wrong choice and I'll die on that hill.

  • I hear a lot of people saying that Duke will “back into “ a 1 seed.  Meanwhile, Auburn has lost 3 of their last 4.

  • NCAA screws Louisville but says, "We'll take your money for selling out Rupp Arena for two days." Clowns.

Welcome back to the Calipari discourse!

Simply stating the facts as I witness them, can’t see it any other way!

Yep.   I’ve seen the consequences of not fouling way too many times.  Even with teams I had a vested interest in. Mason girls not fouling MoCo girls in a big regional game.  Trinity not fouling Lofton in a bigger  SS game.

It's all love, nikeman49!

To put a bow on the Calipari season, I think you would rate it as a success with how it ended. Things were rocky out of the gate in SEC play, and they got hit HARD on the injury front, but the season turned with their victory at Rupp. They were never a top-tier SEC team, just a notch below, which means they were pretty darn good.

Both ways have been shown to work. Taking a timeout, and also allowing your team to get up the court quick and not let the other team get set up. Which Cal actually tried both ways tonight. At the end of regulation with the game tied, he did take a timeout to set up the last shot and it didn’t work. Then in OT he didn’t take the timeout and tried to let them get up the court quick and make a play. Both ways failed tonight.

Which at the end of the day they were up 13 with 4 minutes or so to play. Then up 6 with under a minute to play and Fland grabs a defensive rebound but some reason decides to be lazy and just stands there with the ball down low allowing a tie up. Texas Tech had the arrow and made a three. Then Arkansas senior misses the front end of a one and one. Which allowed Tech a chance to tie it. Just complete failure by everyone on Arkansas.

The timeout thing is so worn out.  Cal didn't call a timeout before Brandon Knight beat Ohio State, nor before Tyler Herro beat Houston, nor before Aaron Harrison beat Wisconsin.  I'm sure many others.  He tends to let them play in those moments, sometimes for the good and sometimes not.

Arkansas took a huge dump in the last five minutes last night.  Cal had a hand in that.  But the constant crapping on him is tiresome by our fans.  HIs team did come into Rupp & throttle us this year, so there's that.

Appreciate what Mark Pope has done this year.  He's our coach now.

No way Dr. Pope smokes.

Cigar maybe.  Maybe.

If Cal had started Reed Sheppard last year, Arkansas would be in the Elite 8 this year.

I have a different fault with Cal on the last play. I don't think there is a right way - time out or no time out. You have to know your team and the specific situation. I would have known plays that my team has practiced for situations like less than 10 seconds, no time outs down by 2 and those plays would be practiced regularly. If Cal had that play and liked what was happening, then why call a time out and let the opponent get defense set?

Here is my fault with Cal in this situation. He is too loyal to certain players. Cal wasn't calling time out with the ball in Wagner's hands because he is going to stick with his guy Wagner no matter what. IMO, no way I want a poor shooter like Wagner with the ball when we need a shot. Plus, Tech has an excellent defender who is going to offset Wagners only skill, going to the basket. Worse, we saw the same thing at the end of regulation when Wagner had to force up an off balance 8 foot bad angle floater. Why are you doing the same thing at the end of OT? Wagner is not the player to take that final shot in either end game situation and Cal tried it twice

To me there is never no set thing when calling or not calling a timeout. It should always depend on the situation if the player you want has the ball in the open court or in transition you go with it. If you have one guy dribbling the ball and 3 or 4 standing around watching or looking over at the bench with less than 10 seconds to play you probably call a timeout.

From ESPN:

THE RED RAIDERS COMPLETE THE SECOND-LARGEST COMEBACK EVER IN THE SWEET 16 ?
Entering today John Calipari was 35-0 in his NCAA Tournament career when leading by 6+ points at halftime ?

It was the lack of a game plan in the end of game situations here. You have a guy with 30pts and both times the ball wasn’t ever going to be on his hands. Situations you need to work on in every practice to where they become muscle memory.
