I also hope Cal gets applause. He had a great run as coach; did some very nice philanthropic things for the state; he deserves applause. And if you don't like him, applaud because he is there and not

  • I think a modest golf clap would be sufficient. No need for hooting and hollering, although once he retires the university should put his banner up and the crowd should be loud for that.

  • Go back and watch the reception Pitino recieved when he came back with UofL. Cal is the coach of the opposite team, are any other coaches applauded? Why is this an issue. Went to the Florida game last

Will UK do something promotional before the game at Rupp to soften the crowd against Cal?  Maybe video messages from some of Cal's great players professing love for him and loyalty to UK?  Have John Wall, Boogie, Bledsoe, Kidd-Gilcrest ect in the crowd/on the floor.

Cal did too much good (including leaving for Arkansas) to get boo'd at Rupp!

I'm not sure how it works in college, but the NBA is big on tribute videos the first time players return to the arenas. I believe a short tribute video would be appropriate.

That would be extremely soft. Mitch didn’t trade him or fire him. Cal was reaching out to another school which breached his contract. Quit acting like he was forced out. Instead of using the same Rolodex of excuses when things weren’t going right and talking down to the fans and his superiors when things went right, he could’ve used humility in all cases and his seat wouldn’t have been so hot. Cal maybe a fine person but he comes in tomorrow as the opposing teams coach trying to beat the team we live and die with.

Soft to some is classy to others.  Just think we could be enduring the season that Arkansas is, with no recourse because of a lifetime contract and huge buy out.  Mitch should roll out the red carpet for Cal because this move has helped Mitch and his legacy as much as anything.

If you don't think Coaches are constantly putting out feelers behind the scenes you are crazy?

@Breds82 are you booing Stoops for dancing with A&M or cheering because he coaches the team you live and die with?

Listening to him yesterday, he basically said do what you want. Outlined reasons to cheer, reasons to boo, reasons to be silent. All made sense.

Sorry I was using sarcasm as I did hear that and basically you have some UK fans who live and die with everything Matt Jones says.  Then there are those that do exactly the opposite because they hate Matt Jones.  Matt has created a huge niche for himself that keeps him raking in the money.  When he is not doing UK stuff on ESPN I find him entertaining, but when it comes to UK he seems to project himself as the be all and end all of what UK should and should not be.

I personally don’t cheer or boo coaches or players, I’ve been to old for That. I also don’t believe in making this a feel good moment just because he used to coach here.

The only team UK has beaten by more than 12 points since December 3 is Brown. I find it hard to believe UK wins big in this game.

Same. I'd a say 12+ point win for Kentucky only happens because of late fouls that stretch the margin. I'd imagine it's a 3-5 point game, probably both ways, all night long.

I think this is incredibly odd. I also think it is odd if Pope asked him to do it.

Definitely more odd if Pope asked him to.

Totally agree 100% with all your points.

Today’s the day as the Smashing Pumpkins once said. Down the same three as last game is what I read. Good luck tonight Cats.

Let’s not start saying how Cal acted was the reason his seat got hot. Tubby Smith did everything right in regards to how he talked to people, and people wanted him gone too once things went south. Cal’s personality and ego was the same when they were winning and people loved him, as it was when they were losing. The biggest thing that changed was since they started losing, people literally could care less what you say or do and would find anything to complain about.

At UK a lot of fans don’t care what you or do or how you act as long as you win. Just like people could care less if you do everything else perfect if you don’t win.

And a Kentucky kid.  And the son of a Kentucky player.  Support your coach, but not in this game man...
