Bowling Green 28 Cooper 14 (5A State Championship)

Featured Replies

Question:  How is the selection of who plays when decided for the State Championships?

Why has 5A been the last game for the last 2 years if not more?

  • Congrats to the Purples. Clearly had the advantage of playing multiple times in the state finals and that experience mattered. Cooper knew going in that BG had some great playmakers and they had a hug

  • Great day to be a Bowling Green Purple. The whole year their defense was always the question. It’s fitting I feel like they rose to the occasion most in this bout.    Size up the rings, fellas.

  • How bout those Purples! It wasn't pretty and wasn't always the way you draw it up on the chalkboard, but they got the job done on a wet, wet night where they didn't have their A game offensively

Congrats to the Purples! 9 of the last 13 state titles in 5A have come from District 2, with Bowling Green accounting for seven of those!

I unfortunately couldn’t watch this game as I was at a Jack Harlow concert at WKU.  Very proud of the Purples and thank you very much for the updates @theguru.

Something I did think was pretty cool was that Jack Harlow gave a shout out to BG for winning state within a minute of the game being final.

You're welcome and in my experience people from Kentucky are smart.

Congrats Purples, making WKY proud!

Congrats Jags on a great season!  Can’t wait to see how next year shapes up to be in NKY!  Going to be some fun battles.

Congrats Deuce Bailey!

Congrats to the Purples. Clearly had the advantage of playing multiple times in the state finals and that experience mattered. Cooper knew going in that BG had some great playmakers and they had a huge challenge trying to contain them.
Cooper had several chances in the 2nd half but just couldn’t capitalize on the turnovers they forced as the BG defensive pressure caused huge problems.

Congratulations to Cooper as well. What they achieved after their shootout loss with Highlands earlier in the year then beating them in the rematch was truly incredible. The Jags should hold their heads high as everyone knew this team was very young only playing 3 seniors all year, well 4 if you count the kicker, and they would be much better next season. Yet the young Jags clearly overachieved and arrived a year ahead of schedule. The future is bright on Longbranch

Great seasons for both these teams and I look forward to them both challenging for the crown next season.

Congrats Purples.

Not surprised they won; but over 300 yards to Cooper under 200 yards was a little surprising.

Deuce Bailey is a player.

Crazy post-game stat… something like 30 of the starters for tonight’s 5A game return next year.

BG graduates two guards and a RB and TE on O and a DT, OLB, and DE on D. Cooper is about the same ?

There's a bunch of good young players around the state.

Kentucky's junior class is loaded with talent.

To start season the knock was can’t stop the run.  Come to the final game and Cooper gets no running game at all.  Remarkable effort by Jungle D last night.  Bailey/Barber both back is scary.  Congrats Purples!
