Good for BG but that has been a season long weakness for Cooper. They rank #30 in 5A in rushing yards. BG finished #18 in 5A in stopping the run so this stat was more a matchup and game situation stat. Cooper trailed the whole game so they are going to go to their strength - their passing game - not their running game.

Congrats to Bowling Green on winning the State Championship! They have a great team with a lot of speed and talent! Also congrats to the Cooper Jaguars on a great season. As someone mentioned Cooper may have been a year ahead of schedule with only losing 3 seniors that start on offense and defense. There definitely is a good possibility we see both of these teams in the same spot next year, even though I know there will be some other teams that will try to have a say in it too. 
 

This was a sloppy game and the weather had a lot to do with it. I’m sure Cooper thinks if not for the two muffed punts that directly led to Bowling Green touchdowns, that the outcome may have been different. Just like I’m sure Bowling Green feels like if it wasn’t for their turnovers, this game may have been a bigger point difference. The biggest difference though was Bowling as mentioned was able to score and take advantage of those short fields after the muffed punts. Cooper was not able to score after any of the 4 turnovers they got. Which Cooper had a couple of penalties (correct calls) on their interception returns that really hurt in regards to field position. Bowling Green was able to make a few more of those key plays, and is why they are the State Champs. They have a great team. Congrats again to Bowling Green.

BG shut their passing game down too.

Was about to say this too. 

Outside of Cooper’s first scoring drive where Ohara just threw two excellent balls, there was very little to be had. 

And I know both teams had to deal with it, but it’s fair to say the conditions effected a lot of the ability to throw the ball down field.

Purples were relentless on that side of the ball all night.

BG definitely did a good job on defense. With that said as mentioned the rain definitely also helped too. Much like the rain probably helped slow down BG offense too, considering BG only had two real offensive drives that led to points. Both defenses played really good, while also can be said the rain also helped some in slowing both offenses down.

And that they deserve a lot of credit for.

BG's defense really improved from the start of the season to the end.  I thought a couple of months ago to win 5A they would have to win a couple of shootouts down the stretch.  Give their coaches a lot of credit for the improvement throughout from the start of the season to the end.
