Mayfield had I'd say 6 or 7 players do the covid. Nothing wrong with it, nobodys 20 years old.

I got to thinking. Didn’t Cartwright start as a freshman and is now a 5th year senior? He may have played more high school games than any kid in Kentucky if that’s the case. Experience definitely matters and an extra year in high school is way different than an extra year in day 4th grade. However, everyone had a chance to do it, so nobody can really cry foul play.

I like Mayfield in this one but I won’t say anything negative about Beechwood. They do it the right way. Thank you for the help during the tornado.

Cartwright started as sophomore. He is a 4 year starter. COVID started during his sophomore year and I guess you could say he repeated his sophomore year. I’m glad he did.

Dang fellas. I had no idea everyone would get so defensive over the mention of covid hold back. I was simply sticking up for that year’s Mayfield team and saying that they had their hands full with that very experienced Beechwood team. I was simply stating that the Mayfield team that year wasn’t bad, the Beechwood team was just good. Hopefully Mayfield plays tenacious defense like this.

Stick up for Mayfield all you want, but get the facts straight. That Beechwood team had 1 5th year player, not several of them. You are sticking up for Mayfield, I’m sticking up for a Beechwood team that you are trying to diminish their accomplishment by acting as if it was tainted by an entire team of 5th year guys.

And was he ever a player. And who says it was tainted? Not me.

Mayfield’s bread and butter will be Starks and the run game. Beechwood will live on Hayden and the pass attack. So to me a huge question is which will come through and be more effective: Mayfield’s pass game or Beechwood’s run game. I think it will be Cartwright and Mayfield’s pass attack.

It’s all good. I just wanted it to be understood that a lot of these kids didn’t have that option because they come from single parent homes with several siblings. It’s college or get a full time job for these kids when they graduate. None of them complain. They just do what men do.

Dang fellas. I leave for a few hours to drive to Nashville Airport and back and find an all out brawl on here. It’s time the officials start the count. Geez ease up.

Starks is also a 5th year senior. I have no problem with it as it was obviously an option for kids still in the correct age group. I guess because of Cam Hergott being Mr. Football, Beechwood has been under extreme scrutiny for it…especially in NKY. I’m pretty sure LCA and Mayfield had as many kids reclassify as Beechwood. It has nothing to do with the game Friday as both teams have some reclass guys still playing. But I do get tired of people acting like Beechwood is the only school in the state that had guys reclassify.

And there is the answer. Cov Cath people especially were all over Beechwood fans because of Hergott and so it is a touchy subject for Beechwood fans. All's good. I don't think a single person in this thread is bothered by the COVID stuff. Non issue. Back to this game.

This morning is the long awaited tradition at Mayfield, the Thanksgiving day practice. I’m not gonna get out there this morning. However, there will be a small crowd watching. I heard they are even serving donuts. My youngest did that four years in a row. I miss those days. You gotta love being from a football town.

IMO….When this seasons all over win or lose for both teams, I  hope KHSAA gets the 2A Districts set up better.  Beechwood playing in a district with two additional schools vs. other 2A Districts having less of a number of schools hurts them in the RPI.

A portion of their starters including the QB only get to play half of a game.  This week it will be nice to see Beechwood’s QB play a full game.

It would have also been great to have the TOP four 2A teams play this week vs. how last week turned up with Mayfield and LCA playing in the 3rd round.

IMO……this weekend between Mayfield and Beechwood feels more like a State Championship for 2A Football.

I've thought that all week, that the winner here in this game will be the 2A Champion.

We do not want to hear that folks. The last time I heard that talk was when my Cards beat the Tigers 19-14 in 2011 in semis. They went to state after a full week of hearing that was the real state championship and got beat by Hazard.
