Awesome news for that kid!

I love that we start the season off with a bang with these two teams. Last year Graves County finally broke the 15 game losing streak and beat the Cardinals at home. This year they travel about a mile down the road to War Memorial to play their cross town rival once again. Mayfield returns a bulk of playmakers in Malik Kirby, Diego Torres, Mak Hoover, Will Morris, and of course probably their best player Josiah England. The issue for Mayfield, their starting quarterback isn't expected to play and apparently they don't have a backup and have been running Kirby at Qb in scrimmages. For the second year in a row a transfer from Mayfield to Graves could have a huge impact on the game. Last year Lincoln Acree scored tds, made interceptions, and had a huge part in an Eagles victory. He's gone but another transfer from Mayfield will be on the field at the..... quarterback position. Jace Houston has looked sharp in the scrimmages and has a plethora of receivers to throw the ball too. Cavette, Mathis, Vecausovic being the returning starters. The question mark for Graves. They have to replace every offensive linemen and almost every defensive linemen. After the scrimmages this past weekend I think most people will be favoring Mayfield after handeling Murray pretty easily, while Graves and Henderson scrimmage was pretty close. I think it should be a fun game to kickoff the season and I'm hoping the Eagles can prevail. If Mayfield becomes one dimensional I think we can walk away with the win. They may try to use alot of screens but the last couple of years our corners have been excellent at stopping screens. So I don't think they can screen us to death and must push the ball downfield. If they keep us balanced by doin so, then it will be hard to stop England. Final Prediction: Eagles 35 Cards 28.

Graves County scrimmaged two smaller teams out of TN, Humbolt and Obion, last friday and was able to score multiple times while holding both opponents scoreless. These two teams have really struggled the last few years so still a ton of questions to be answered for this young Graves County team. The quarterback transfer from Mayfield seems massive for both programs. He was able to complete the ball effectively and looked sharp doing it. His favorite target seemed to be Mathis who had a great shot at being QB had the transfer not happened. Now Mathis gets to show off his athleticism and speed at receiver. The line that everyone was worried about looked fine, but I think Henderson will give us a much better picture. I would feel a little better if atleast Wiggins was out there with the inexpierence line. I know last year Henderson didn't have the best record, but looking back at their schedule it was a tough one and they looked competitive against most of the state's top teams. Any insight on what we can expect from them this Friday?

I would tend to agree that Mayfield wouldn’t miss him a ton at QB, because it seemed they found their answer last year in Robbins, but I have heard Robbins had surgery on his leg due to a baseball injury and might miss a couple of games. I would imagine that transfer is stinging a little more now. I hope Robbins makes a full recovery and gets healthy. Even if that means for our game. I hate for any kid to have to miss a football game. Only guaranteed so many.

Now that the season is getting closer and after talking to some players, parents, and people close to the program I have a stronger feel on the team this year. They lost their only returning offensive linemen to an acl injury this spring and then lost one of the best incoming freshmen in the state to IMG. Can’t blame the kid for going, but sure stinks for us. The athletes are there, but the line is going to be very young and most haven’t played significant varsity reps. I think 6-4 this year would be a great season for the coaching staff. That schedule terrifies me.

They also have Raygon Mathis on the team. He’s one of the best athletes in west Ky. Brother played QB for four years and Graves and holds all the records. However, if you play him at qb you lose him everywhere else. Think he broke the schools record for most ints last year.

I agree in the strength of the schedule. This is about as tough of a schedule as you can get this side of Bowling Green. I do think the eagles will be very athletic, but they did lose a lot of linemen. They do have Maddox Wiggins returning who did a great job last year. There are some seniors who are finally going to get their chance with some underclassmen pushing for playing time. Graves has typically always had solid offensive lines. I don't see that changing. Probably some bumps early in the season due to lack of expierence but I think they have enough talent to overcome an inexperience line. I heard they got more talent this week with the Houston kid transferring from Mayfield. That’s the second BIG transfer Graves has gotten from Mayfield in the last few years. The last being SIU commit Lincoln Acree. Wonder what’s going on, because it use to be the other way around.

Talked to some coaches I can confirm he has transferred. He will battle sophomore Chase Stonecipher for the QB job. Graves has a good problem. They have 3 kids who can play quarterback. The other is Raygon Mathis, but he’s special on the defensive side of the ball too. I imagine they’ll want Houston or Stonecipher under center so Mathis can be in other places.

SW 21 GC 7 Graves found something offensively their last drive and marched down the field to cut it to 14-7. SW answered in under 2 minutes to score right before the half. Graves dropped a pick that last drive that would’ve been 6. We are hanging in there. First drive this half will be huge.

Eagles are going to have to play a rated perfect 10! out of 10! game to win this one. But, since the Owensboro game something changed with our Eagles defense. They have been on fire only allowing 10! points per game since then. I also read a stat they have gotten an int in every game this season. Maybe it was competition, maybe it was growing pains as the defense has a ton of sophomores starting. Offense has been solid all year, until last night. Credit to Greenwood defense. It did seem when we added an extra blocker things started opening up. Huge credit goes to the coaching staff making that in game adjustment! I'm a fan, so of course I believe our kids can get it done. I saw the original poster say Crider carried us to State. While he is in imo the best Eagle all time, with all due respect to him, but that defense as a whole carried us that playoff run. There were a few college players on that defense. In that playoff run teams averaged 10! points per game on that defense. Hmm 10 points? For a team and program like Graves you have to make your run in cold November games on the defensive side of the ball like they did last time. We aren’t going to outscore 4.4 athletes very often. So hit them hard, hit them early, and take the love and will of the game out of them. Seen them do it before. In fact, it was 10! Years ago! Eagles 14 SW 10

Hand the ball to the ref and get ready for the XP. Unless you’re an offensive linemen. If they score they should be allowed to spike it and dance with the other 4 linemen.

Had to run to work after the game. Just got home. Been a night. I thought Graves played extremely well tonight. To be honest I thought we could’ve opened this game up a lot earlier but kept making mistakes to allow Apollo to stay in the game. An interception, a roughing the punter, a kickoff return td called back, and just some other mental mistakes. The best kept secret in West Kentucky might not be a secret anymore. Brady Rozzell took over for Marrs and had a terrific night. We also probably had 2 guys with over 100 yards receiving in Acree and Woodward and then Cavette had a big TD reception as well. Apollo is a solid team and that QB of there’s made an unreal pass for a td. Prayers he is okay. That was scary when he went down. Outside of that great pass 1 td came off an interception that set them up in the redzone, a kickoff return for a td, and then one more in garbage time. Sounds like we didn’t play Apollo at full strength which is unfortunate for them. Marrs was on crutches. :(

How is Apollo’s secondary? Feel like the games we won (Mayfield and even Madisonville in the pouring rain) our big receivers were able to exploit the secondary. While the games we lost (Paducah and Owensboro) that wasn’t the case.

Eagles have played last two games without Acree and then lost Marrs in this one. Looked like a bad knee injury. Hate it for this squad. I was told Acree could be back any minute and will have to wait to see on Marrs. Hopefully it was just a scare but like I said, didn’t look good.

The Super Bowl label ended in 2014. Graves football has one goal now. Get back to a state championship game but next time win it. If you think the program or the fanbase is satisfied beating Mayfield, then you know nothing about GC football or are being condescending. Hopefully Acree plays. He didn’t play in the Owensboro game. If not the Eagles need to bounce back and get to playing at the level they were playing early this season.

I know Owensboro isn’t for moral victories but based on this score it seems like they are playing good ball just in time for…. Well my eagles.

It’s not if the clock runs tonight, it’s when.

This heat has me worried. We were dropping like flies last week. I think our ones can give PT a game but if we are subbing our backups in like we were the second half against Mayfield, it might be trouble.

Name someone on your team faster than Acree…. Name someone more athletic than Cavette…. It’s time to move on. Good luck this week.

This game is going to be tough. PT imo is the best team in our schedule this year. I expect we won’t have too many people pick us to win, but we are use to that and when we have talent, we historically give someone an L they weren’t expecting. We have some talent this year. Maybe we can surprise some folks.

why are you bringing up games from previous years? They are irrelevant to this game. What don’t mean so what?Yes Graves scored off a Mayfield mistake, but that means Graves got only one score off a Mayfield mistake and the other 4 they scored without field position. Mayfield scored once without a Graves mistake. It’s like you only watched the last 8 minutes of the game. Graves had the best three players on the field Friday. They are simply faster and more athletic than Mayfield. But time to move on to Tilghman. Looks like they’d gunna be a tough one.

I don’t think you can objectively watch that game and come to the conclusion that Mayfield was the better team? Their first score came off very good field position after a blocked punt where a guy went untouched. Second came off a one on one matchup where the receiver beat the corner. that's a good td. Third one was after Graves went about 30 yards the wrong way and pointed from their endzone. Once again, short field position. Then Mayfield recovered an onside kick and hit another big play. 3 tds came off of Graves special teams and offensive mistakes. I think Graves wins this game 7 or 8 out of 10 times honestly.

Proud of these young men and coaches! Wow. I might catch some flak for this, but I honestly thought we were 2-3 tds better, we made so many mistakes and still found a way to win. Mayfield made some mistakes to, and their defensive box is going to give some teams a lot of headaches. Found out tonight Acree actually transferred from Mayfield to Graves his Sophomore year because he wasnt getting playing time?! Wow!
