  1. I am blown away that Hatchell was considered an after thought. Is this because he would not want it? Because his resume is remarkable. When he took over calling offense and changed what Mayfield had been doing for over 100 years basically, it seems things starting clicking and by clicking I mean back to back to back to back to back championships. Of course I am just an older Graves guy and might have a soft spot for our old QB.
  2. That would be hard to turn down. Essentially making 6 figures (retirement plus new salary) to coach football at a powerhouse in TN. I’m sure with his resume many schools would set him up with a pretty good gig between 8-3.
  3. It’s made it’s way to social media in Mayfield/Graves County. Mayfield fans seem to be having some fun with it. So my gut tells me he is staying and it’s all formality and those close to the program know, but probably instructed not to say. This is purely speculation. If this was a real retire they’d be making posts a lot more heartfelt than what they are posting.
  4. Can they though? If he has to retire then don’t they have to (at least pretend) post the job, take in applicants, and then make a hire? I’m not sure just questioning. And if that’s the case then I would think they can’t legally say “he’s retiring, but don’t worry he he will be rehired.”
  5. I’m guessing because the previous year schools were probably hesitant to let anyone go after the covid season. Purely speculation.
  6. Been going non stop guys. I live right outside the city of Mayfield and we had no damage. Some family members lost everything, but we are fortunate enough to have the resources to take care of them and most importantly they weren’t home last Friday night. Pictures and videos don’t do it justice. Wanted to give a shout out to former GC Eagle, current Wisconsin center, Chris Vogt to use his platform there in Wisconsin to raise over 150K. So many similar stories of heroes out here in Mayfield/Graves and surrounding areas. This community is strong. I fully expect the City of Mayfield to be stronger than ever once this is over.
  7. The rumor for the last few years has been, 'This is Morris last year.' I just don't believe it anymore.
  8. Great post. I also think people forget that these 7 schools has no football program. Graves is just now getting to second generation players. For years dads who had never played football attempted to coach the little league programs. There was little to no pride in the football program. That has since changed with your second generation players. The booster is very strong, guys who actually played football are now coaching at the elementary level. Also not many schools are better than Mayfield at football. There’s also a big trend that when kids get cut at basketball at Graves or get zero playing time they go to Mayfield in hopes to play basketball. Your second tier ball players are usually your good football players. While there they become just football players and forget about basketball. That has since slowed down. When Mayfield won the region their key players were County kids who transferred.
  9. Football falls under both academic and social reasons. You learn as much on the football field as in the classroom both academically and socially. Nothing wrong with just playing football and moving on. However, I do think you should finish out the year, except in certain circumstances, like you have a scholarship offer and can start practicing this spring.
  10. Possibly because a month ago a thread was created talking about the Championship game and Mayfield was basically an after thought.
  11. I have said all year. Don't. Count. Out. Mayfield. I see Beechwood winning this game and could by a couple of tds, but if they look past this game they will get beat in a close one.
  12. That was the best team we have played in a very long time. Might have been the best high school performance I have ever seen. Owensboro was at another level. I am still in shock to be honest.
  13. Let me add I have no idea who is reffing or which team is upset about said refs.
  14. I made a post about Coach Morris working the refs earlier in the year and caught a lot of flak for it, so basically building off that to work the feathers of my cardinal friends a little. However, I do believe if a coach could get the refs changed it would be him. Just part of the Morris mystique.
  15. If there is a coach who can actually get the refs changed, its one of the ones on the sideline for this game.
  16. Pretty accurate but though my bias lenses all things equal GC 42-35 😉
  17. No rain in the forecast, this is goin to be a completely different game this time around. Graves is averaging 187 passing yards, while Owensboro is at 154. (This includes the games with Wimsatt) Owensboro is allowing 118 pass yards while Graves is allowing 119. I think this weather helps Graves as they have the ability to throw the ball. Probably not as much as I wish it did, but better than pouring rain nonetheless.
  18. I too, believe Mayfield will win, but these by 3 or 4 td calls are a little disrespectful in my opinion. They beat Mayfield 2 times in a row and it honestly should be 3.
  19. I expect a lot of points. Because of the points scored this could be a 2-3 td game in either direction, but it will be back and forth. Team with the less mistakes wins IMO.
  20. Last night Graves County Football named their field after their first High School football Coach. Coach Buckley built the program from scratch when 7 small schools consolidated in 1985. He had previously won a state championship in another state before taking the Graves job. I am not sure when the first official Varsity season was, but he coached up until 1998. His most successful season came in 1993 when the team went undefeated during the regular season before falling to a good Warren Central team on a last second field goal. The biggest win that season was against the city school of the County, a program you may have heard of called Mayfield at War Memorial. It was the first game against one another and a night those of us around the program will never forget. It proved we could be successful. Not even a decade in, he had the program at that level. When I say the program was built from scratch, not a single school that consolidated ever had football. Any kid before then who was interested in football or had potential to play obviously went to the city school. The school didn’t have a real practice field. The team would have to sneak onto War Memorial by crawling under the fence to practice field goals because the program didn’t even have a field goal post. And of course by 2014 the school played for a State Championship. Coach Buckley was on the sideline with the team every game that season. The greatest part of his legacy however, will be how he continued to support the program even after years of retirement. Each year he gives the 7th graders a chain link, symbolizing that when everyone is connected, we are stronger linked together. I thought those of you who love High School football would enjoy this.
  21. Owensboro hasn’t scored yet? Must not be playing that well 😂
