I just watched the Red Helmet show and have to once again reiterate how grateful we were and still are that the Beechies took it upon themselves to go that far out of their way to send supplies and support after the tornado. That’s a top notch class act if I’ve ever seen one. The only thing more we would have asked for is for you all to let us win last year in Lexington haha. All jokes aside we couldn’t have asked to get beat by a better bunch of people and a class act program. I will always be a Beechwood fan except for when they play that one team. Hope to see a lot of Beechwood fans make the trek way out west this Friday.

  • It takes 500.00 to stream the semifinal round. We have already paid that, and we will be live from War Memorial on Friday. Thanks to all the kind people who donated so that we can be on the air. GO BI

I like Mayfield in this one but I won’t say anything negative about Beechwood. They do it the right way. Thank you for the help during the tornado.

I'll go with Mayfield since they are playing at home but should be good game.

Saddle Club locked and loaded for Friday night. They got everything setup and tested tonight. They are good to go for Friday. Ft. Mitchell will be rocking. #instantclassic

Bad matchup for Beechwood based on film I have seen. I think Mayfield wins by 2-3 tds.

I’m don’t know how to think about this game. There are things BW does really well that we’ve struggled defending throughout the season. That’s what worried me about LCA. Mayfield has had moments against teams that they should have beat handily and gave up scores from bad tackling or miss assignments. If the mayfield team that played last Friday night shows up, I’ll feel good about this game. I’m picking mayfield of course but I’m still worried.

What are the bad matchups?

I have seen both teams play and Beechwoods' defense is not what it was last year. The offense is hitting on all cylinders again but the difference is defense. I lean towards Mayfield with the home field advantage.

The matchups that I see are glaring. The Tigers don’t seem to have much of a running game. Mayfield is stout against the run, well in any year, but this year is no exception. The qb for Tigers has lots of trouble with pressure quickly. This is exactly what Mayfield is built for. Also, the db’s for Mayfield have the speed to cover his options in man coverage. On the flip side, the Tigers seem to struggle defending the run against quality teams. They want to force you to throw in hopes that their fast secondary can break on a ball and get a takeaway. This is a problem for the Tigers if Mayfield doesn’t have to throw much to move the ball. A much overlooked matchup will be on the special teams. The Tigers have a real issue stopping the returns on kickoffs on their left side. So, if they kick deep, they risk a quick 6. If they pooch, they give the Cards great field position.

From reading all of this, and some of your other posts, I am thinking Beechwood has no chance in this game against Mighty Mayfield.  Is that about right?

Beechwood depends a lot on the pass and Mayfield has done an exceptional job stopping the pass. Maybe Murray the stats show more yards than they probably should due to hook and laterals. Paducah also threw a lot but Mayfield did cause some problems. We all know about the problems they caused last week against the number 1 qb in the state. They do struggle a bit against the run in games I have watched, but that’s not Beechwood’s strong suit. With all that being said I do think Beechwood puts up some points, but Mayfield will get stops. I’m not really seeing Beechwood getting many stops.

Beechwood's passing game is far more advanced than most high schools and certainly much more so than anyone Mayfield has faced.

Speaking of Murray, why did Mayfield struggle in that game?  I still can't figure that one out.

Number 1 Qb in what? Recruiting, maybe. Performance? Definitely not. Boley has been a turnover machine

1. There’s no way someone can legitimately argue that Beechwood’s passing attack is FAR more advanced than Paducah Tilghman’s.

2. Murray has two uber athletic 6’5”/6’6” receivers that are also basketball stars and they were catching jump balls over Mayfield’s highly skilled but vastly undersized Corners every time Murray needed a play to stay in the game. No high school team or even many NFL teams have their top two receivers standing at 6’5” plus.

For your sake I hope you’re right, but I doubt it can be much more advance than Paducah. Paducah out “athleted” mayfield so maybe the concepts of the passing attack are more advance.

Murray game was weird. They ran two hook and laterals successfully. I honestly think Mayfield might have spent next to no time preparing for Murray and spent their entire time preparing for LCA. That is purely speculation.

Boley had thrown 6 int’s in 12 games coming into last week against a very tough schedule. I’d say that’s a far cry from a “turnover machine.” I do agree with the rest of your post; he is not the top performing QB in the state, but I will also say if you have some of these other QBs play the schedule he did they probably wouldn’t have the numbers they have either.
