Yes. But when there's a play clock that is visible for everyone you can say hey, this isn't starting on time or it's not running. As opposed to an official keeping time on their wrist.

As a coach and being over in Indiana for a few years I would like them to adopt the summer flexibility that they have.  In Indiana you can practice 12 days between the day after memorial day until Aug 1 and 5 of those days can be against another team.  We go to camp the first weekend in June against ourselves, schedule a scrimmage against another team early July, and go to a 6 team scrimmage at the end of July.  We wear equipment during this, not just helmets.

Go back to just the winner and runner-up go to the playoffs.

Go from 6 classes to 5. Get rid of districts and go to 4 regions with a minimum of 8 teams per region. No requirements to play teams in region so can schedule who you want. Top 8 teams in region by RPI make playoffs. Seed those 8 teams by RPI. Once down to two teams per region reseed those 8 teams then do the same for final four. Also revamp RPI so no class differential plus replace opponents opponents calculation with margin/victory loss calculation with a cap of 35 points to eliminate running up the score to improve RPI.

1- Do like Ohio does. Have classes, but not districts- maybe even go back to the old school conferences.

2- Using Calpreps, our RPI, a mix or something along those lines, only take the Top 8 from each class to the playoffs (truth be told, you could probably take just the Top 4, because that's all that have a chance at winning each class the overwhelming vast majority of the years as is).

3- With only taking the top 8, it allows the 1st round of the playoffs to be the current Region Finals week, thus move the opening week of each season back to Labor Day weekend and it would allow for a 10 game schedule still under the current format. OR, make it the last week of August and it would allow for an 11 game regular season.

5- The teams that don't make the playoffs? Take the next 16 based off computer rankings and play a Thanksgiving Day bowl (still done in parts of the Northeast)

If you used current RPI format, teams would have to quit scheduling out of state teams and teams in lower classes since can't risk not being one of top 8. If switched to using your proposal then Calpreps would be way better than RPI.

On scheduling teams in loser classes I am confused, are the first two free or not?  From an old thread:

The Board approved the recommendation for football RPI calculations to allow for two “down-play” games. This will permit each team’s first two games played against an opponent from a lower class not to include the class factor, allowing even the perception of RPI impact not to impact scheduling. The RPI factor of out-of-state opponents remains unchanged for the 2023 football season. The Board also elected to adjust football RPI calculations regarding the withdrawal of teams from competition. The RPI class factor will stay the same for any school that withdraws during the season at the level of that team when game contracts were signed (rather than defaulting to a no-class factor if a team withdraws).

I looked at St. X's schedule and they only have two lower class games which makes sense based on it saying two lower class games don't hurt.

Must be a mathematician or economist with all those numbers lol. Actually agree with some of these ideas especially fewer classes.

Have said this for years. I was in the BOC meeting when that was switched. Told one of the members EXACTLY how and WHY it happened. It basically was a trade off for some basketball redistricting. NKY was very involved.
