  1. As a coach and being over in Indiana for a few years I would like them to adopt the summer flexibility that they have. In Indiana you can practice 12 days between the day after memorial day until Aug 1 and 5 of those days can be against another team. We go to camp the first weekend in June against ourselves, schedule a scrimmage against another team early July, and go to a 6 team scrimmage at the end of July. We wear equipment during this, not just helmets.
  2. Every coach at Manual has won a majority of their games, most in the 80% range. I would say Eckloff will be in the same wheel house, but magnet transportation could possibly be ended so how that effects everything will be interesting. If everything stays the same as it is, he will have a chance to do what the others have not, which is get over that hump to championship status or beat Male. I think Dr. Lucas was the last coach to beat them, however I could be wrong on that.
  3. It was posted on JCPS website for 2 weeks. It has already been taken down. I believe they will be interviewing soon
  4. I think every situation is different. I think that different regions have different issues as well. I worked at three schools that typically struggle in football and we were able to be successful, but doing the following things does not always guarantee success, but it was things necessary to just field a team, especially the last two years. My summer routine was as follows from July 10 on. Had to start on the 10th so that by the time we were in pads we had everyone and their days in. 10am-1pm Get things ready for practice, water, pads, schedule, restripe practice field. 1pm-2:30 Each lunch with my wife/kids 3pm-5pm On Activity Bus to pick up players 5:00-5:45 Weight Room Open for Players 6:00-8:30 on Field 8:30-9:00pm Snacks 9-11pm back on bus to take kids home Get home about 11:30pm. Get up the next day and repeat. All this just to field a team. Not to mention paying out of pocket for physicals and insurance money I never have complained about this and I never will, it was just what had/has to be done. I am just speaking from my side of the reasons.
  5. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with facilities. Too many schools for one, open enrollment and school choice kills, which makes “haves” and “have nots”. Most people have no idea how much effort it takes just to field a team at some of these schools

  7. Just so no one takes my comments out of context, I am in 100% favor of having spring football, and think it is a great thing for those that can and will do Spring Football. I want them to be able to continue to do that, and those that don't to have that availability to do so if they choose. I was just stating I wish there was an option B if you really can't do spring football. Things that other states do, like give time in June to go full gear or allowing full gear 10 days earlier than the current Aug 1 if you have your days in from July 10.
  8. Spring football is great in theory. Some schools do benefit from it, but speaking from my standpoint getting the month of June back serves a better purpose for us.
  9. Just curious who has elected to play up. We, at Louisville Western elected to play up to 5A to renew district rivalries with Doss, Fairdale, and Iroquois who are located a couple miles away.
  10. I have to think one of those 3 moves up. I have no evidence, no communication of it, but I really doubt that holds up. I assume one will move to 4A with us.
  11. Exactly what is going to happen. The usuals will end up with a playoff game at home because most of these rankings are based on last year as a starting point. How do you rank Eastern KY opponents VS Louisville opponents? We played the Eastern KY 4A district and I had a hard time gauging just where they were on film because we didn’t have any common opponents. How can you do that on a Ranking system when we watch hours of film and have a hard time. If this is going to happen it has to go to Neutral sites on Turf. This is the only way it can work. Giving the same teams a home game every year is ridiculous
  12. I personally disagree with the seeding. You would think that this would have been communicated with current head coaches and if they want it. This system seems to only favor the “traditional powers”. At the end of the day the little guy gets screwed here.
  13. John Hardin and Central Hardin are a part of the Greater Louisville Football Coaches Association. Because they were and still choose to be a part of that association they are included in the Louisville side. The Louisville team is made up of teams that are a member of the GLFCA.
  14. We haven’t done it yet, but always a goal to practice on Thanksgiving!
  15. We definitely don't do it for the money! I am sitting on a principal certification with the possibility to be making close to 95-100k. However, after taking a year away as a head coach to be an assistant at Manual, all I want to do is be a head coach again! I am probably crazy for this considering all I had to do at Iroquois and Valley to put a product on the field I was proud of, much less win games. Drive the activity bus daily to pick up and drop off kids for a whopping $10 an hour, pay insurance money out of my pocket, take kids to get physicals and pay for them, take time away from my family to pick them up and bring them away from domestic violence, feed them, be their mom and dad at times, let them be a part of our true house hold family , and countless other things that have nothing to do with coaching. All I can say is with all the pros and cons is I love it. It gives me purpose, with that being said I wish we were compensated for it more, but the pay will not stop me and that is probably 99% of the problem!
  16. There is always someone who will apply, there is always someone who will take the job just to say they are a head coach. Just the reality of the situation
  17. Just my opinion, but I would let them take spring football away in exchange for 7 on 7 back in June. When Glaser was at St. X he did not do spring ball to my knowledge.

  19. The Alumni part of me would like to return to Valley to coach, however that chapter of my life is over for now. Maybe one day I will return back, but right now I feel 10 years at Valley and 2 years at Iroquois, that it is time to try something new. They are both tough environments to coach and teach, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and was lucky enough to see success at both places. Some people may call me crazy, but I wanted the opportunity to pursue the better football jobs that open and going back to Valley really doesn't do that.
  20. I am the head coach at Iroquois and work with him at Iroquois. He is the AD and finished up his KTIP and Rank 2 last year, and was in an alternative route to certification before that. He has a certification in business now. He shows no intention of leaving his much higher paying job as AD, but stranger things have happened. If he chooses to go that route then he would be good for that program.
