I already stated that he does not.  That was not the issue before, it was lack of head coaching experience.  Bob Sphire does not teach and his son is not certified from what I understand.  He bought a house in walking distance from the school and his wife and kids are in the school system.  I 100% believe that when the job opens his name will be in the hat.

Seems rather odd that a school with Highlands academic reputation would employ people without a teaching certificate. So you're telling me that they pay a guy with one state championship on his resume to do nothing but coach? Wow, Dale Mueller and Noel Rash at Beechwood really got hosed lol. I think you might find both of those fellows have a certificate and dad has some type of school day responsibility.

I believe that Bob is a counselor of some sort and the son teaches the area where kids are trying to catch up on their credits that they are behind on in order to graduate.

Honestly do not know.  I know that it does include the principal, athletic director, a school board member and member of the athletic boosters for sure.

As they move down to 4A it doesn't get a lot easier. Corbin, Boyle, Tilghman, Franklin Co, CovCath are good programs too. I would imagine that the Bluebird faithful are shocked giving up 54 in the second half. Several mistakes and Cooper has better talent than Highlands right now. Two straight semi final trips is not bad.....but that second half had to leave a mark lol. I just hope Frank is ok. So much for that upset.

I was thinking the same thing. With how good the upper part of 4A is looking, staying in 5A might have been more ideal. I do believe that Highlands is going to field very good football teams the next couple seasons though.

Highlands returns a lot next year and will be a top 4A team without question.  Obviously think they will be pretty strong considering Boyle and Freddie D are on the schedule.

Meanwhile, across the river, what could (should) have been is leading his team into the Ohio D1 State Championship game next week.

I feel like Sphire is catching hate when he has done an admirable job to this point. Highlands was not very good before he got there and he had his team one play away from state and another semi final appearance that didn't end up so well, but he got them there.

Highlands is back to being one of the top teams in the state and will probably be the #2-4 pre-season ranked team in 4A next year.

Do we think that coach would have produced a different result if he was at Highlands the last few years? I personally don’t think so, as Highlands simply lost to a Cooper team that is better than them. However, he has Highlands back on track to possibly finish the deal the next two years in 4A.

Maybe some debate about the playoff game in 2023, not so much the two games this go around. 

But if you’ve only got one game in question it’s a hard situation to gauge anyway.
