Back in the early 80’s, CovCath was the  second game of the regular season. After the Dayton opener and before NewCath. So it’s been a minute.

NewCath was the big game. Dayton and Covcath were a couple ducks to tune up for the big game.

My advice to players is do what you want to do. Do not let any coach tell you that you have to choose one sport over another. Trust me - if you are good enough to play, you will play. Above all else,

  • Right but you have to get back to being pretty good before you can jump into the best arena.

  • Just saw on Twitter Benke with another offer, nice job big guy!

Will NCC and Highlands every play again?

I’d say no. Once Mueller brought the spread offense to NKY (maybe Ky) and everyone else took 3-4 more years to adapt it was way to late. That and the fact that NewCath is a small A school now, it would be a blood bath and a no win for both teams. The last time NewCath was competitive with Highlands had to be Duffys last year, down at Newport Stadium? Am I remembering right?

Agree on the series being over for good.

✓ Yes on the '93 game (15-18 L). Last NCC win was in '84 (25-13 W) in Eicher's first year.

I'm afraid not. Great memories of "The Big Game" for you?

Also, Coach Bathiany at Lex Cath is a Highlands grad. The cool thing about this series is they are going to incorporate Jr High games prior to the varsity game. I am not sure this game will be played on 8/18 or 8/19 but the intention is to make this a continuing series on the 1st Saturday of the season and make it a 3-4 game event between Jr High, Frosh and Varsity. No Frosh game this season. It may be added in the future. Very cool idea.

Game is on Friday. I believe Highlands will playing the next morning against Cincinnati Moeller's JV. Highlands is starting to Beef up their Schedules below the Varsity level the best they can. The Freshman Birds will travel to the Pit on Sept 7th to play Cincinnati Elder.

I was told this morning the Bluebirds may be in the market for some coaches. Sounds like they had 3-4 coaches resign over the past two weeks.

I have heard the same.  So why did these guys leave?

As the Bluebird turns...

My guess would be job conflicts since most are employed outside the school. Or maybe the time commitment gets in the way and real life has to be handled. I'm sure most schools across the state run into the same issues in the off season.

I have heard the same but they have already gained two quality Coaches in Shawn Zitt who played at Lloyd and is now the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the FTIS district and is now the new Running Backs Coach. That's a Win IMO. I also heard that former Simon Kenton QB standout and EKU grad Matt Shearer will be joining the Staff as well. Welcome back home to Highlands Matt. Also another quality hire. Matt might be young but let's not forget he has been coached by some quality College Coaches in the past couple of years. Coaches that have left, one had a kid graduate and the other had a Career Change and just couldn't make it happen. Nothing more nothing less.

Spot on. Highlands isn't the only school that battle daily hurdles that keep them from hiring all Employees/teachers within the district.

Okay I will bite. Something tells me you know why. This should be good.

I have spoken to 3 of the 4 who had to step away and you were spot on with why. Nothing more, nothing less. Anyone saying the contrary is attempting to stir a pot that is empty.

I was told they left because of a failed coup attempt to vote out Bob and promote Hayden.

Really a simple question I thought.  Maybe not.
