Highlands will indeed be playing Raceland on a 2 year Home and Home starting in 2023. The game this year will be Sept 15th at Raceland. 

 

Full schedule is supposed to be released Monday 01/30.

Lex Cath and then Cov Cath to start the regular season.  Really nice schedule!

Did anyone have Lex Cath on their radar as someone the Birds were putting on the schedule in 2023?  Hopefully this will be a series that continues....LOVE IT!!!

Also, in regards to Cov Cath, is this the earliest Highlands has played Cov Cath in reg season?  This must be the result of them not being in the same district any more....

The Lex cath game doesn’t surprise me. I kinda felt it coming once their GCL contract ended. Coach Sphire coached at Lex Cath and the AD played at Lex Cath. Makes sense to me.

O I get it and all the connections plus the new Lex Cath coach a HHS alum and was a potential HHS coach during that fun process a few years ago!

My comment was more so that I don't think I ever heard anyone on this thread throwing Lex Cath out there as a potential opponent in 2023 when it was stated there was an open date Highlands was trying to fill.

Again, love it.  GO BIRDS!

Also, Coach Bathiany at Lex Cath is a Highlands grad. The cool thing about this series is they are going to incorporate Jr High games prior to the varsity game. I am not sure this game will be played on 8/18 or 8/19 but the intention is to make this a continuing series on the 1st Saturday of the season and make it a 3-4 game event between Jr High, Frosh and Varsity. No Frosh game this season. It may be added in the future. Very cool idea.

I heard the intention was for it to be on a saturday to do that but it looks like this year it will be on a friday.

That stinks. Assuming the kids are back in school at that point, I can't imagine being able to have any games prior to the Varsity. 

The Raceland home and home seems out of place.

Back in the early 80’s, CovCath was the  second game of the regular season. After the Dayton opener and before NewCath. So it’s been a minute.

CovCath - Highlands was the second game of the regular season in 1974, 1976, and 1978 as well.

Former Bluebird player LC head coach, Birds current HC and AD former LexCath folks. No brainer. Good gate, good competition for each as I assume it's home and home.
