Answering the original question. I’ve always thought this is a perfect week to have multiple players get reps with 1st team. Mix them in from the get go and ensure everyone is clear on the mission…… be ready if called upon to bring home the hardware. But what do I know. ?

It would just be so easy to give byes and let lower seeds play each other first.

Take my area of the state. We have BG/Ohio County, Greenwood/Grayson, Owensboro/Christian County, South Warren/Graves

imagine working it out to where 

Christian County vs Grayson

South Warren vs Ohio County

Those are at least better matchups than what is there.  Might even help attendance with more competitive matchups and the top teams don’t have to risk injury in a meaningless game.

 

It may be bad football at times, and I might be in the minority, but kids have a very finite amount of opportunities to suit up and play football. I am all for playing as many games as possible; especially in football where you practice all year long and only get a maximum of 15 opportunities to actually play. An old coach of mine used to say that you have to be a little crazy to want to do all this work to only play such a small number of games. I can't imagine there are many grown men out there that got whipped in the first round of the playoffs in high school and say "I really wish I wouldn't have played that game".

This is mostly true. The people who "aren't entertained" forget what this is about. Kids.

I'm sure a survey would get you a smattering of answers-- but given the choice between ending the season and one more week? I assume the majority choose one more week.

10. No gambling, bookmaking or point spread comments are allowed in any of the high school forums. Figures of speech that use gambling terms may not be used in any of the high school forums (i.e. bet, over/under, spread, parlay, chips, line, odds). All gambling comments are permitted in the non-high school forums as long as they do not involve any high school sports, students, or student-athletes.

5 classes, best three teams out of each district, and a few wildcards determined by RPI. I haven’t done the math so I have no idea if that works out but I feel like this could limit some first round blowouts.

6A and 1A definitely need some beefing up. 

There is a very easy solution. I mentioned it previously. Allow any team that is a #4 seed to opt out of round 1.

I will also tell you I was involved in one of these first round games that you want to do away with back in 2009, with a 2-8 team that had to make a 3.5 hour trip to Johnson Central to play in a game that they had no chance of winning, and while we did lose, it was one of the most memorable football experiences I ever witnessed in my 35+ years as a player or coach, and one I still share with people  all the time. There are positive, memorable experiences that can be had every single time you step on the field. 

My stance is in complete defense of the kids that have been on the losing side of these first round games, that have conveyed a feeling of being demeaned.  Not my words alone.  Just standing up for them.

Well, I would normally think so as well.  But, in reality, the home team in the playoffs normally lose a lot of money on the first round games, and sometimes the second round games.  I know the team I have the most knowledge of does, and I would say your team does as well.

And, this is exactly the reason for my stance - for the kids.  The players of these teams that shouldn't have been made play in the playoffs made it clear they would have rather not played that playoff game.  Heard it, saw it, was part of the people that watched it.

Then let's just not keep score, not have a tournament and declare no one winners. Every team schedules 15 "games" a season where you scrimmage another team for 3 hours. Everybody gets to play, everybody plays the same amount of games. 

Instead of Championship trophies, everyone gets a "You Played Football, 2022" ribbon. 

I've seen both sides of this arguement. My freshman year we are a 4 seed (5-5) and beat the 1 seed from the other district 48-0. Sophomore year 2 seed (6-4) lost to a 3 seed. Junior year 4 seed (2-8) got waxed by 1 seed after a 3 hour bus ride. Senior year 3 seed (3-7) won 35-14 over a 2 seed. Do I wish we didn't play those games? absolutely not, win or lose we got to play in another part of the state we may never go to again. It also leads to funny stories and ribbing when you run into old teammates.
