In round 1, 15 lower seeded teams won a game. If only the top 2 teams in the district qualified for the playoffs, these 15 teams would not have had the opportunity to win a playoff game. That is more than 450 kids who now have a lifelong memory of winning a playoff game. Why would anyone want to deny kids that opportunity?

Using that logic, let’s just let everyone win a State Championship so everyone has the memory of being a champion.

Holy Cross lost in the regular season by 27 to their next opponent, Kentucky Country Day. George Rogers Clark was shut out 49-0 by their next opponent, Madison Central. The districts that got swept were simply that bad. 
 

At very least, I believe you could remove 4 seeds from the postseason and lose basically nothing.  

No way to give 1 or 2 seeds a bye? And the amount of teams participating don't change?

Let everyone have the opportunity, yes. To make the memory of being a champion you have to earn it.

How about just allowing everyone a chance to compete for one and let's just see how it plays out.

We allow every team in every other sport to compete for a title, heck we even allow most 2nd round losers to advance in basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball playoffs and probably other sports as well. Why the yearly uproar over football. In my opinion more football is always better than less football.

Everybody has the opportunity to earn their way into the playoffs. Literally everybody.

What I mean is that every team has the opportunity to win enough games to make the playoffs, even in a revised system.

Then let's cut basketball back to two teams for district title with loser going home, same for all other sports. Cut participants in the playoffs in half like everyone proposes for football and I'll listen to cutting football back. 

The thing I'd like anyone to explain to me is what harm is done by keeping the playoffs as we currently have them?

Your point about the basketball district title loser getting to stay in the post season is a good one!
