My take on the matter is based on all the posts that you mention and he hasn't committed anywhere (i.e. Beechwood) leads me to believe there is a big push for the Ft. Thomas School District to change their standards/rules/whatever you call them to allow a student to leave mid year......

I feel like that is the only reason why this hasn't been a closed case yet (IMO).....

Do you believe they would ever change their standards/rules for this to happen? Just wondering where HHS powers are standing on this matter.

Here is how I see it in a different view.  Is this standard/rule something that is just "Out dated" in today's academic world where kids are able to accelerate their High School education to be "eligible" to move onto college?  Why potentially restrict a student's learning by having him held "hostage" at your High School when they have fulfilled every college requirement to be accepted into a college.

So I don't see this as a change to lower Highlands standards, I see this potentially the School Board opening up their eyes to 2022 reality.

It doesn't hurt that a D1 potential athlete might come to your school if you make this change......and I am sure there are going to be MANY people ready to rip the School apart if this in fact change because they don't see the whole "Big Picture".

Let me spin it this way, is Beechwood any less of a school because they apparently allow students to leave early???  Last time I checked Beechwood is ALWAYS in the TOP of the class in KY School Districts.

Exactly, Highlands is probably in the process of changing it. He is probably waiting on it. That’s why it’s a delay. Beechwood is probably the back up if Highlands can’t do it. He has a direct connection to Highlands so that’s where he’s going to go if this works out. Not because Beechwood isn’t a great school, his dad is going to be working with Nevels from what I’ve heard.  

Below is an excerpt from the FTIS board agenda on graduations requirements. Contrary to many posts on here, it clearly states students can graduate early from Highlands if they meet certain requirements. Here is a link to the agenda from July 18: Board Agenda The document is in the agenda under graduation requirements.

"Graduation Requirements 

EARLY GRADUATION CERTIFICATE

Students who meet all applicable legal requirements shall be eligible for early graduation in relation to receipt of a graduation diploma and an Early Graduation Certificate. Students wishing to follow an early graduation pathway shall notify the Principal of their intent prior to the beginning of grade nine (9) or as soon thereafter as the intent is known, but within the first thirty (30) school days of the academic year in which they wish to graduate. A Letter of Intent to Apply shall be entered into the student information system by October 1 of the year the student declares intent to graduate early.4

Students working toward receipt of an Early Graduation Certificate shall be supported by development and monitoring of an ILP to support their efforts. To graduate early and earn an Early Graduation Certificate, a student shall successfully complete the requirements for early high school graduation as established in administrative regulation by the Kentucky Board of Education.:

1. Score proficient or higher on the state-required assessments; and

1. Meet the college readiness exam benchmarks established 13 KAR 2:020 for placement in credit-bearing courses without the need for remediation.

A student who has indicated an intent to graduate early may participate in the student’s state administration of the college readiness exam prior to the junior year, if needed. Students who meet all applicable legal requirements shall be awarded a diploma and an Early Graduation Certificate."

 

All I will say is, I think we get an confirmation of where he’s going to school August 1st.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you. The discussion of whether it’s an outdated policy or not is definitely up for debate and can be had. 
 

Which is why I was curious if HHS was considering a change in this rule before this circumstance, if they have ever discussed, or like you said, this could be the catalyst of change the school and district needed. 
 

What I do hate seeing though, is the essentially slippery slope this could present if they make a “one time exception”. Personally, at the end of the day, a kid is a kid, and I don’t care where he or she goes to play high school sports. And I think most people would agree with that, but it is when adults get involved, exceptions are made, and rules are broken when the problems and complaints arise.

That angle I can agree with, if there is a change made it better be a permanent change for all, not an "exception change for one".

Never happen for just one. A few years back Brycen Huddleston wanted to leave early to enroll at Eastern Michigan for the Spring semester only to be told no. Maybe the District is seeing more and more of this trend happening going forward and think maybe it's time for a Change even if it doesn't work out for the Florida kid this time around.
