Reds President Threatens Fans

It almost feels like it’s out of the movie “Major League.”

Phil Castellini, son of Reds owner Bob Castellini and president of the organization, joined 700 WLW in Cincinnati and basically told the team’s fans their options were blind support or to have them sell the team to someone who would move it.

So "Little Bob" Phil Castellini basically telling Reds Fans that they should just be happy to have a team. What a moron!

Just shows you how out of touch this clown show is.  First of all, I blame all of MLB for the way things are currently.  Secondly, the Castellini’s talking poor mouth is not a good look.  You want to make money, put people in the seats by having a consistent winner.  Just like Field of Dreams, build it and they will come.

I don't care if I ever watch another MLB game in my life.

I was seriously considering switching my TV provider so that I could get Bally just to watch the Reds. I'm glad that I didn't. I'll still root for them, but I won't go out of my way to listen or watch them.

Hopefully, this sets the dominoes falling that eventually lead to an owner that cares.

What have Reds fans done to show they want change, besides saying “this may be the year” every single season?

I'm not sure exactly what Phil should have said, but I'm 100% confident that wasn't it.

Just another case of the owners boy being full of himself.  Never experiencing real life as a normal person.  I grew up with the Big Red Machine so I'm invested for life.  With that said, no excuse for saying that.  Love going to the ballpark and will always root for the Reds.

This is the history of the different Reds ownership groups, it's been that way for ever.  Even the big Red Machine was dismantled before its time.

Marge done as much as anyone to keep the team afloat, and she got ran out of town.

I'm not saying Little Bob chose the correct wording, but the man at least spoke the truth.  It's hard to survive in a small market.  How many of you or your friends holds season tickets?

Exactly. See a lot of games with announced attendance of 12-14k....and that's counting EMPTY seats previously paid for. I live 5 miles away....never go. MLBPA makes me sick with demands. Guys hit .250 and earn 20 million. Wow. Guys throw 100 pitches and it's like a career milestone. Lost all interest.

She probably ran her mouth too much too...

So, you're fine with owners making money hand-over-fist...just not the people that actually play the game?  Got it.

Every team is probably going to be given about $100 million this year just in the form of tv deals (both national and local).  Yet Baltimore and Oakland have a payroll that's not even half that.  Pittsburgh and Cleveland aren't even 2/3'rds.  There's absolutely no excuse for that.  They're getting $100 million without selling one dang ticket.  Pockets are being filled there...it's just not the players'.

If baseball teams (owners) were losing that much money in these small markets, you'd think they'd be up for sale a lot more often, wouldn't you?  I mean, no smart business man is going to invest hundreds of millions of hard-earned dollars into a business model that's set up against them, right?

What drives me nuts about Cincinnati is there are some franchises who don't break the bank but still put out playoff caliber teams almost every year. Tampa Bay, Oakland, and Minnesota (at least prior to the Correa signing) all come to mind immediately. But it seems like the Reds spend five years winning 60 games, then have one chance at success and if it doesn't happen, they blow it up and start again. MLB's revenue structure is pretty terrible but there are organizations that are finding ways to make it work. Cincinnati isn't one of those.
