January 4, 200719 yr Any of them. Maybe not Georgia Tech. Why can't the big ten go? Already two teams in the BCS...
January 4, 200719 yr In an 8-team playoff, good chance that LSU is excluded. You would have the conference champs of the SEC, ACC, Big East, Big 12, Big 10, PAC-10. Michigan would have been the 7th team. Good chance Boise State would have been 8th team. That would leave LSU and Wisconsin out of the mix. Sorry, but in what senario does the #4 team in the BCS get excluded?
January 4, 200719 yr Any of them. Maybe not Georgia Tech. Why can't the big ten go? You can only have 2 from each League. OSU and Michigan LSU and Florida WVU would have been the best choice.
January 4, 200719 yr The BCS does a good job of embarassing itself. It's not Notre Dame's fault. :thumb: :thumb:
January 4, 200719 yr Sorry, but in what senario does the #4 team in the BCS get excluded? As I pointed out and in the discussions that have been held on this, it is pretty much the consensus that the big 6 conferences are going to get an automatic bid in any playoff system for their conference championship. The 8-team has been one of the main suggested systems to start with. With 6 bids already out to the conference champions. That leaves 2 spots. One would have gone in a heartbeat to Michigan. That leaves ONE spot for either a Boise State (undefeated team) or LSU. Good chance that the undefeated Boise State team would have gotten the 8th spot. My point is NOT that LSU is not deserving but the thought that a playoff is automatically solve all of the issues is laughable. We have an 8-team playoff this year, great chance either LSU or Boise State is excluded when BOTH would have a great argument to be in and a chance at the national title.
January 4, 200719 yr Who would you have put in over Notre Dame? Remember no one from the SEC or Big Ten can go, so that eliminates Arkansas, Auburn and Wisconsin. Looks like it's between WVU, Rutgers, Texas, Georgia Tech or California. Who did you think was more deserving? Sorry CR but defending ND isn't very popular today. I was amazed at how slow they were. Two suggestions for Charlie. First get yourself a DC. Their defense was one of the worse I've seen LSU play this season. I really believe with that D they would be a middle of the pack SEC team. That brings me to my next suggestion, play somebody. Get out of the mid-west and play some southern teams with speed. Tom Osborne finally broke the mold and sent his staff down to FSU to learn about the benefits of speed. Two years later he won a couple national titles. All in all I was glad to see pompous Charlie the little Tuna get his extra large rear kicked. As to your BCS question, maybe ND gets in but maybe they should have been sent down to the Orange to play #15 Wake and allowed #5 (or was it #6) Louisville to play #4 LSU. Seems more fair to me. I would have loved to have seen LSU smack UofL down almost as much.
January 4, 200719 yr You are assuming that ND wouldn't have been invited to the playoff. That might be an unsafe assumption.I wasn't assuming anything. If there was a 16-team playoff, like there is in every other division, chances are Notre Dame wouldn't still be playing. And LSU would have had a chance to make a run at a national championship.

January 4, 200719 yr LSURock, I would've really liked to seen that. The Bayou Tigers just might be the absolute best team in the country at this time. I also agree with another post that said to blame the BCS not ND. What school would turn down the invite? There are none....
January 4, 200719 yr Didn't Notre Dame turn down a bowl game a few years back? I believe it was the Liberty Bowl.

I would have loved to have seen LSU smack UofL down almost as much. I thought ND matched LSU in the first half. ND had some good drives and I believe outgained LSU. Second half was an embarassment. I don't think too many, if any, teams would've beaten the Tigers last night in Nawlins. I know all of the ND bashers are out today, but if they want to complain about ND not belonging in the BCS they need to offer another team that is more deserving. Hindsight is 20/20. ND lost to USC and Michigan, Texas lost to K-State and Oklahoma, WVU lost to UL and USF, etc. Every team vying for the 10th BCS spot had flaws.
January 4, 200719 yr Notre Dame has been undeserving of a BCS bid for the last several years, there are many more deserving teams out there than the Irish. While you mention who WVU, Texas, etc lost to, you fail to mention who (if anyone) they beat. Against currently ranked teams, Rutgers beat UL and lost at WVU in OT; said Mountaineers beat Rutgers and lost at UL: Texas won at Oklahoma, at Nebraska and lost to top ranked OSU. What did ND do against ranked opponents this year??? Their usually soft schedule isn't exactly indicative of a "top" program. If Charlie can't do any better than his forerunners at getting better athletes into South Bend and scheduling a tougher schedule instead of loading up on cream puffs, they won't return to national prominence.
January 4, 200719 yr Not sure why everyone is suddenly all over Weis...it's only his second year and he's done a pretty good job if you ask me. For starters, Notre Dame has been better since he got there. They aren't exactly oozing talent currently...does Weis not get the benefit of a little time to improve the talent at ND and then see how they do? He couldn't work a miracle, but give him a couple more recruiting classes to boost the talent there and Notre Dame will be deserving of BCS bowls and they will be able to compete better with the elite teams. I can understand why people get irritated with Notre Dame getting the call when they probably aren't as deserving football-wise, but there is no point in letting that cloud your opinion on the job Weis has done and is doing.
