This is confirmation of what most already knew would happen. Let's see: Notre Dame gets whipped by Michigan in South Bend 47-21, then gets crushed by USC 44-24. Losing to LSU 41-14? Not a surprise.

 

It is sweet, though, to see happen exactly what everyone said would happen when an unworthy Notre Dame was placed in a BCS bowl game.

LSU was playing as well as anyone in the country when the season ended, but it's also true that Notre Dame always get invited to a bowl game that is a little over their level of play.

 

Another reason we need a playoff ...

You are assuming that ND wouldn't have been invited to the playoff. That might be an unsafe assumption.

I would love a playoff. I have to say that I am still upset how the SEC West played out this year. Arkansas was so lucky this year to fall rear end backwards into the SEC Championship game. I would have loved to have seen a Florida LSU Rematch for the championship on a neutral field.

 

I'm not going to lie I have a HUGE gripe with Arkansas on how they came to the SEC title game. The only thing they did all year that was some what impressive was an early season upset at Auburn not too long after their crushing they took to USC. I believe Auburn was not prepared for that football game like USC did for UCLA getting the big head and getting upset.

 

Then they play NO ONE until LSU and that game has no meaning to it at all. The best team Arkansas beat up till then was Tennessee and they were a very average football team.

 

I don't think Arkansas could beat Auburn again if they played but that is my opinion.

 

Arkansas at best is the #3 in the SEC and I really think they are #4 behind Auburn if they played them again.

 

I will bash Arkansas as much as anyone, because they were lucky from their scheduling point of view to be in the SEC title game. If they had to go to Florida like LSU did they would have been beaten as well an added a second conference loss to their record.

 

LSU could be the best in the SEC but they did lose to Florida and have lost one more game than Florida so it's hard to argue that they are better than Florida.

 

I think you can argue Auburn is better than Arkansas because Auburn has a much better record than Arkansas, and they beat LSU and Florida. Arkansas beat a crappy Tennessee at home and an out of no where upset at Auburn. I don't think that would happen again.

In an 8-team playoff, good chance that LSU is excluded.

 

You would have the conference champs of the SEC, ACC, Big East, Big 12, Big 10, PAC-10. Michigan would have been the 7th team. Good chance Boise State would have been 8th team. That would leave LSU and Wisconsin out of the mix.

ND fans hope that in 2 to 3 years , Charlie will have HIS players on the team that fit his style of play. We can then make an evaluation of how good of a coach he is. Until then, we give him some slack due to playing with players that he may not have recruited (see defensive backfield).

I think LSU would have nailed Rutgers too.

Rutgers would not have had enough offense, plus they would have been playing in LSU's backyard.

I heard an interresting stat on the radio.

 

Since Lou Holtz left ND they have played 16 teams ranked in the top 25 and are 0-16 agaisnt those teams.

I thought they said it was 0-16 vs. teams in the top 10, instead of the top 25. In any event, it's a dismal record for a team of Notre Dame's supposed national standing.

 

I wonder how many top 10 teams ANY SEC team has faced during the same period of time.

A bunch considering there are 3 teams presently in the top 10 from the SEC.

 

Kentucky faced 3 this year alone. UL, LSU, Florida.

Weiss didn't want Army and North Carolina to get a good scouting report on them for next year, that's why he was running it up the middle down 20 in the 4th. Second half was a total joke!

I am a merit guy, and with the exception of the title game, these bowls ARE NOT made to pair up the most deserving teams. I think a lot of people fail to realize that. The BCS got exactly what it wanted and it worked out perfectly: tons of viewership.

I am a merit guy, and with the exception of the title game, these bowls ARE NOT made to pair up the most deserving teams. I think a lot of people fail to realize that. The BCS got exactly what it wanted and it worked out perfectly: tons of viewership.

And tons of $$$$$ to the teams.

 

Before a playoff is put in, the colleges are going to have to pull the $$$$$$$$ IV from their arms that come from the television contracts/sponsorship money for the bowl games. As pointed out in other threads OSU and Florida will receive $17 million each for playing in the national championship game. I feel safe in saying that UCLA/Florida DID NOT receive that much money for the NCAA basketball championship game.

Pretty poor showing from the Irish. LSU looked very good. The ND loosing streak in Bowls continues...... Could it be possible that this Charlie Wess (sp) and ND Irish thing are way, way OVER RATED......... Move them to CUSA where they belong, in the second tear of College Football..... Yea, its fun to watch a ND come from behind victory at South Bend on TV, but the PROGRAM is way over rated and really needs to step it up a couple of nothches to play with the OSU, Michigans, USC's, and LSU's of college football. My preminission was confirmed last night when ND went for the fake punt deep in their own terrritory (4 and 2) and LSU was laughing at em all the way to the sideline..... Hard to believe that coach charlie thought that making that first down was going to propell ND to a big W. After that play it was OVER. ALL LSU...... Just wonder what BCS Bowl game ND will get next year at 8 - 4 ?????

If ND doesn't fake the punt they might have taken a lead into half time. Defensively they couldn't do a thing to stop the LSU recievers, but I thought they were the victim of bad coaching a few times. They were on the 40 with 40 seconds left and ran the ball to end the first half. Why?????? That fake punt call was one of the worst play calls I've ever seen. However, the guy who made the tackle should have been blocked. The blocker made the poorest attempt at blocking that I've ever seen.
