December 30, 200619 yr My thoughts on the game: - good first drive by the Cats to start the game (the review was correct) - wild sequence in the 2nd quarter with all the turnovers and missed kicks - Cats are a much improved team and will make noise next season - UK fans were awesome like always - the ACC is weak; the SEC is strong - Woodson is an NFL prospect - Even the defense played decent for most of the game - the announcers were terrible; one of them really hated Rich Brooks Go Cats!!!
December 30, 200619 yr Kentucky vs. Clemson Post-Game Notes FINAL SCORE: Kentucky 28, Clemson 20 Team Notes With today’s win, Kentucky improves to 8-5 on the season. It is the most wins for a Kentucky team in 22 years, since the 1984 squad went 9-3. It is the second-most wins for a Kentucky team in the last 29 seasons. Kentucky won five of the last six games in 2006. That had not been accomplished since the 1977 team won its last nine games. Kentucky improves its all-time bowl record to 6-5, ending a three-game post-season losing streak. It is Kentucky's first bowl win in 22 years. UK's last bowl victory was a 20-19 decision over Wisconsin in the 1984 Hall of Fame Bowl. Kentucky’s 28 points is a school bowl record. Kentucky is now 1-1 in Music City Bowl appearances. Kentucky leads the Clemson series 8-4, including 1-1 in bowl games. UK is now 43-39-6 all-time vs. teams currently comprising the Atlantic Coast Conference. Kentucky has won seven of its last nine games decided by 10 points or less, including five of seven this season. UK, which entered the game ranked fifth in the nation in turnover margin, was +2 against Clemson, bringing the Cats’ season tally to +15. Player Notes Today's game marked the final Kentucky appearance for 16 Wildcat seniors. Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl MVP Andre Woodson finished 20-for-28 for 299yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. His three TD passes were a UK bowl record. Woodson joined Tim Couch (37 in 1997 and 36 in 1998) as the only UK players to pass for 30 TDs in a season. Woodson’s 299 passing yards moved him past Bill Ransdell (5,564; 1983-86) for third place on the UK career passing list with 5,651. Woodson finished the season with 162 pass attempts without an interception, breaking his own school record of 153 consecutive throws without a pick. Rafael Little finished the season with a school-record 22.6-yard punt return average. The previous single-season school record was 19.1 by Don Phelps in 1946. Little also reached the minimum (40) to qualify him for the UK career punt return average. He now has a school-best 17.7 yard career punt return average (41 returns, 727 yards). True freshman linebacker Micah Johnson scored his first career touchdown when he lined up at tailback in UK’s goal line package. He finished with two carries for one yard. Freshman Jamil Paris caused and recovered a Clemson fumble early in the second quarter. Both were career firsts. Freshman Trevard Lindley’s second quarter interception was his second. His second quarter fumble recovery was also his second. He is the third UK player this year to recover a fumble and intercept a pass in the same game (Myron Pryor vs. Ole Miss and Marcus McClinton vs. MAC champion Central Michigan). Tim Masthay converted his second fake punt of the season with a 10-yard pass to Marcus McClinton. He had run for 17 yards earlier this year against South Carolina. Both successful fakes led to TDs. DeMoreo Ford’s 70-yard TD pass was his second career score and the longest catch of his career. It was the third-longest pass play for UK this season. Wesley Woodyard caused his fourth fumble of the year on a third-quarter sack of Scott Proctor. Paul Warford recovered the fumble, his first. Woodyard was credited with a team-high 12 tackles, giving him at least six tackles in 14 consecutive games. Dicky Lyons, Jr., caught his ninth TD pass of the season Keenan Burton caught at least three passes in every game this season and caught at least five passes in each of the last seven games. Burton’s five receptions moved past James Whalen (120; 1997-99) for fifth place on the UK career receiving list. He now has 123 career catches. He is also fourth in career receiving yardage with 1,635. Tight end Jacob Tamme, a former high school shortstop, successfully fielded all three on-side kicks attempted against UK in 2006, including a Clemson attempt in the Music City Bowl.
December 30, 200619 yr I almost shed a tear when Rich got the gatorade bath. Great job Cats:dancingpa
December 30, 200619 yr Congrats to the Cats!!! First bowl win in 22 years! What is this world coming to??? UL in a BCS game? UK wins a bowl game? Neither in the bb top 25?? Wow!!!
December 30, 200619 yr The announcers were terrible, by the way. Any UK fans that started to worry about karma when the one announcer said the game was over when Clemson still had a fairly legitimate chance to tie? The goofy announcers were almost too busy arguing to call the last few minutes. Great game, Kentucky. Defense played very well (especially #32) and Woodson was awesome today. I have to believe his stock as an NFL draft is on the rise.
December 30, 200619 yr Just got back from the game and it was sooooooo sweet. Congrats Cats!!! I heard a few Clemson fans before the game talking about how upset they were that Clemson was playing such a bad team.... oops:sssh: . The adjustments after the 1st Quarter were great. The fake punt followed by TD pass to Ford was certainly a turning point. Great year boys!!!
December 30, 200619 yr RB REGGIE MERRIWEATHER (on the game) We went out there and played hard, but we just didn't get a break. We dropped two interceptions. We had some horrible calls by the refs. Obviously the game didn't go our way. It hasn't been going our way the last couple of games. We just needed a break and couldn't find one.
December 30, 200619 yr For the first time in a long time, the UK football fans have a legitimate reason to look forward to next year. This was definitely the signature win that UK has been searching for for some time now. When they were up 7-6 in the first half I thought it was just a matter of time before Clemson took over the game. But, UK tightened their belt and put together a spectacular 2nd half. Though I am definitely not a blue bleeder, I really felt good for Brooks when the team dumped the Gatorade on him after the game. After taking so much heat the past few years, it was nice to see him end this season on such a positive note.
December 30, 200619 yr Great game by the Wildcats. Sour grapes to the Clemson players who complained after the game. Maybe if UK had converted on the TO's, then they win like 42-12.
December 30, 200619 yr I too need to eat crow on my criticism or Rich Brooks, I guess after the early success under Hal Mumme, and Guy Morriss doing well in his second season I didn't make enough of an allowance of how the reduced scholarships and negativity surrounding the program would affect things for several years. Brooks has shown that when given time he can win while doing it the "right" way.
December 30, 200619 yr :dancingpa :dancingpa :dancingpa Just got back from Nashville. Great atmosphere. It was like Commonwealth Stadium South in the parking lots and during the game. I loved the two gutsy calls by Brooks. The fake punt and the flea-flicker late in the fourth quarter were awesome. Andre Woodson has to be a dark horse candidate for the Heisman next year. First bowl game I had been to, and hopefully it is the first of many for years to come. GO BIG BLUE!:ylsuper:
