Neither coach should be thrown under the bus here.    I know coach Peach and know for a fact he's an excellent coach.   I don't know Coach McCombs, but he certainly has the background / pedigree to be an outstanding coach for young football players.

But the (likely) reality is that there's no right-wrong here.   You just have two coaches that don't work well together, professional.    As well all know, this happens all the time.     When a head coach finds a group of assistants that can all work well together, and with him, then he's got a gem of a staff.   It's rare to see a staff that doesn't have at least some turnover every year - and many of those coaches leaving do so because they just don't feel like they fit in.

When you're the head coach, the buck stops with you.    At the end of the day, when the assistants make recommendations, it's like going to the grocery store.   You take a can off the shelf, check the price, look at the ingredients, consider its effect on your diet, and you make a decision.   Sometimes you put the can back on the shelf.

I'm not in Danville in the middle of things; I'm an outsider looking in.   But my gut feel is to wish both coaches well and "move on".    Coach Peach gives the Admirals an opportunity to be a premier program again - and Coach McCombs should easily find another opportunity where he feels more comfortable.

My hope is that the parents will send those kids back to the program soon.    Few people get to choose their boss in life, or choose the decisions their boss makes.   We all take orders from someone.    If your response to decisions you don't like is to simply quit, then you're probably not getting the kinds of lessons from football that you should be.   

Danville is a long, proud football tradition.   I've enjoyed watching them over the decades.   Best of luck to Coach Peach, Coach McCombs, and the Admirals as they move forward.

Can’t help but wonder how the kids really feel about Coach Peach and if this is something the team can recover from and move forward.  
 

10-17 kids is a lot of kids.

I am concerned about that too but I would say to any Danville players reading this you will never get this chance back so suck it up and be a team player, you will be glad you did.

Kind of makes you wonder if coach McCombs was openly bashing or disagreeing with coach Peach in front of players. If an assistant coach is telling players behind the head coaches back that the head coaches idea is not good, or that he disagrees with the head coach. Then that makes it very hard for players to buy in, and is something an assistant coach should never do.
 

I don’t know exactly what all went down, but in regards to being an assistant it doesn’t sound good. It seems more like an assistant who was undercutting the head coach with the players, based off those comments and the players actions. 
 

That may not have been the case at all, as none of us really know. However, Imo how the assistant handled it seems worst to me based off the little bit we know so far of the situation.

I have coworkers that are familiar with Coach Peach, they speak very highly of this man. In a world of turmoil. Patience is a virtue.

I think they dressed around 35 for their game against Garrard County last weekend.

Larry Vaught is now reporting that all of the boycotting players returned to practice today. 

McCombs was an excellent player and beloved here in Christian County. One of my favorite alumni from my Alma-mater. That said, there is a history of him trying to take charge and he never stays anywhere very long.

He came into Hoptown the last year of Dixie Jones. That program was falling apart, but they had some decent talent. He got a relative in as a transfer who was a legit division one talent. They were decent the first part of the year, but then he saw the gap and pretty much took over the offensive play calling and put his relative at QB and the whole rest of the season pretty much was about getting good film for that player. There was no coaching and no one knew who was in charge. Even in the worst times of the Jones era at Hoptown, the team did have order and discipline, but it became such a toxic environment and no one knew who was running the show. They did not even make the playoffs that year and the staff was all let go.

With his NFL pedigree and time being a coach, you would think he'd get more consideration for a HC job. I won't make any accusations or assumptions, but just look at what are the facts, no one around here considers him for a job and no one wants him on their staff in a big role. Good football mind, but it seems like he does not stay places very long and does not get looks in interviews.

Curious; why did he leave Bryan Station? Was he not making a difference in kids lives there? Was there turmoil there? For a coach to be let go once a season starts there has to be more to the story.  Being controlled and asking to change things for the good of the team are not the same things. NFL, college, or Hall of Famer doesn't mean anything when trying to get young kids to execute a game plan.

Ideally, yes, there is a LOT of knowledge gained by doing and being those things, but that doesn't mean you can coach. I'm pretty darn good at math. I've taken Calc 1, Calc 2 and Calc 3. I can't teach math worth a damn though.
