It’s an awful name. Wolfpack? Fine. The rest is a monstrosity.

I might be wrong but I think this will hurt academics more than anything else. Im just an advocate for smaller schools wit closer knit environments. As far as athletics, I think this will keep and lot

Well this county has become a laughing stock due to the poor academics, might as well have a name that’s a joke too?

I wonder if the Same hiring committee that hired the “Big Time College Guy” last year 4 this job will be the same group that hires the New Coach less than 1 year later?
For the kids that play football there let’s hope not!

Thats too long.   TV/Radio will call them HCCA to save time.  Papers will call them HCCA to save column space.   That school will never be called by its proper name.

Looks like they have some folks in Christian County who are trying to rally against consolidation. There are some interesting and enlightening posts in this Facebook group about some of the problems in the school that are contributing.

LOTS of deferred maintenance on the two school buildings, along with what appears to be subpar maintenance (e.g. - a new roof on one of the buildings that should have come with a 30 year warranty, and a myriad of roof leaks 2 years after the roof was put on...and the school has apparently allowed the leaks to continue to cause damage rather than calling on the warranty to repair the roof and the damage caused by the leaks).

Also they have a list of CCPS employees that have resigned or retired in the last year. They don't offer any info, though on whether or not it's a larger-than-usual number of resignations/retirements compared to any other year.

UPDATE

The bids came in for consolidation. The district had a max of about $120 million they could spend on the school. The bids came in close the $220 million.

They are way short on money. They voted down the bids and are going to see what they can do to move forward. They think the bids are too high. Even if they’re too high, how much lower can they go?

So now they’re stuck with falling apart schools and no backup plan to build. Looks like this will not be happening.

Now is not really the best time to be expecting any construction pricing to go down.

Sounds like a substantial Value Engineering proposal is coming. For those opposing consolidation already, they are really going to enjoy when cuts are made to things promised or for less than spec grade construction to cause issues.

Also... anyone else get this vibe from the extra long school name?

I have read that the schools will continue to participate as separate schools athletically through at least 2023-24 school year.  Is there a chance the school board will undo the merger vote and the schools stay separate at least for now?

Interesting as we are at another KHSAA Realignment year.  All schools will go through that and be placed in the same or different districts/classifications.  I would assume both Hopkinsville and Christian County are keeping the KHSAA appraised of this ongoing issue?

I've heard that as well.  that's just 1 more year after this football season.  With new contracts coming up that are usually 2 years, why would you schedule either school.  You would play them 1 year then they combine and you  are left with 9 games the 2nd year, and everyone you could have scheduled to start with that week are not available cause they are on 2 year contracts.  Sure you could just play the new school the 1st year, but they can only play 1 opponent.  Either Christian Countys opponent, or Hopkinsville opponent is going to get screwed the 2nd year of this new 2 year contract if they are just planning on 1 more football season.  If they ain't combining now then they should play 2 years seperately not 1.

So I seem to recall when Christian County and Hoptown were working on hiring new football coaches that the plan back then was to have the new school operating as two separate campuses and playing under one conjoined athletic program as the Wolfpack. Then once the new building was finished everyone would be at the new campus and the current Christian County and Hoptown campuses would go away.

That seemed pretty unfair to me, at least. So with the plan to continue on as separate schools for at least one more year, does that mean they are planning for everything to consolidate once the new building is completed? How is construction coming along at the new campus? I wonder if the KHSAA might have possibly poo-pooed the whole two campuses, one team idea.

"Possible poo-poo."

Not exactly the same situation, but when Mercer County absorbed Harrodsburg it was in the middle of two-year contracts. The new "school" played Mercer's schedule the second year while most of the left over schools on Harrodsburg's schedule ended up finding ways to schedule each other. Mix in the fact that usually between five and ten teams end up with only nine games and it should work itself out.

Original bids went out for the school building last July, and their budget of $130 million for the building was well-exceeded when they received only two bids back, averaging $200 million between the two. A redesign of the building was submitted by the architect to the school district earlier this spring, and the board voted to send the project back out to bid in May. Looks like they have received their bids back, but no word as far as I've heard on how that went.

Looking at the couple of things I've seen online, they are phasing out the construction of the new school, with the athletic complex to come as part of Phase 2.
