I am willing to take that risk because I refuse to allow fear to rule our lives  and because there are no guarantees in life . I feel not playing would be a bigger risk for his mental health. Other parents may make a different decision and that is their prerogative.  

Hopefully, KHSAA will realize that a blanket decision does not fit every area of the state and leave the decision to play up to the local districts that understand what is going on in their communities.

I'm concerned about the effect of leaving the decision to play to local districts.  So many games are across districts.  What will it do to schedules if one or more of your games after either 9/11 or 10/2 (whatever is decided) is across districts and the districts involved do not have consistent policies?  Granted, I understand the reasoning, but I am concerned about the logistics afterwards.  What a mess.

I don't know how you avoid it.  Districts have to handle a situation should one arise.  The KHSAA can't force anyone to play, especially if a team is dealing with a district/team wide outbreak. It's not safe or smart for either the district that's dealing with the issue or the team that they are playing to force teams to play, or punish them for not playing. I get it, it sucks to have a game cancelled last minute. But given the current climate, what can you do?

Sure there is. When they voted for play to happen a couple weeks ago, this meeting was set to make sure things were still "good" before things fire up next week. This meeting makes perfect sense.

Great post and I am sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the difficulty of being in an educationally decision making capacity. Whatever is decided there is sure to be backlash. What I bolded is what I feel is at the crux of many people's frustrations. COVID is not the same in every place and those in administration are trying to balance that with what they believe is the safest solution, while also considering the mental health component.

If no new action is taken today, football will start on Monday 8/24. 

Jerry Wyman (Louisville), Marlon Miller (Louisville), and Matt Wilhoite (NKY) all say their schools want to delay. 

It would seem that Option 3 will be selected.

Maybe but clearly the "majority" of students/parents want Option 1. 

This will be an interesting vote. Great point made by Trent, these kids are going to play with the KHSAA or without the KHSAA.
