First time seeing Beechwood in person this year, and it truly is a one man show. They do have others that our capable though.

I totally agree. Have seen Beechwood many times this year and every game's the same. They have a lot of talent but they are not a TEAM.

The Beechwood Tigers have many offensive threats and have no logical reason to not distribute the ball to the open player. Downton, Busald, Roth, Decker, all can shoot and have been successful when given the opportunity. However, when you look at their stat sheet and the year's worth of stats, its a sad reflection that one player is taking more than half of the games shots?! Who needs that? What college team is going to allow a player to take more than 50% of their teams game shots? It's ludicrous. Scotty Draugh is a good player but their is no discipline. He is in the top ten in the state in total scoring, but is no where on the top 50 in FG percentage. That tells the real story.

His shooting percentage is lower than average. But when one person takes more than

50% of their team's shots, that team will lose. It makes no sense that not one of their 8-9 coaches can't see that and are not willing to make an adjustment. I just don't understand it. Now, take a look at the St. Henry stats (and take a look at any of the stats of any of the opposing teams that beat Beechwood this year. It all tells the same story. Beechwood is literally having one guy "shoot them out of the game" while the opposing team is more disciplined, rotating the ball, distributing the ball to the OPEN shot. It isn't rocket science. It's basketball 101. Now, take a look at the powerhouse of the 9th Region. Cov Cath: Tell me is there one kid taking more than 50% of their shots? Heck no! I don't think you could find a team in the state that has one player taking more than 50% of their team shots? If someone can, please share it. It's a sad commentary on this teams' deficiency. Maybe someone will wake up before it's too late.

The 9th is really down this year it seems. Its Cov Cath then everyone else, Highlands may actually be #2, but I really don't believe there is a number two hah. I would have had St. Henry there prior to seeing them on video versus NCC and I wasn't impressed. It's an odd year for the 9th region.

 

It's basically because CovCath has more talent than other teams.

Congrats to Coach Faust and the Crusaders. They have a legit shot to win the whole thing. We’ll be rooting for them in Ft. Mitchell!

The even worse side of that is only 4 players even took more than one shot.

 

IMO, Draud's poor free throw and three point shooting is because he is carrying too much of the load. A team cannot put that much on one player. It is bad for him and bad for the team. Everyone on the team including Draud, the coaches and the other players on the team need to work harder on getting more players involved on offense.

 

Went out and watched. What an atmosphere. Just awesome. And Couldn’t agree more with this take. Nothing more evident than when Bessler re-entered the game with about 3/4 minutes left, with 4 fouls, and Beechwood couldn’t get one look for Rylee under the basket. It was unreal. Add to it that BW was in the bonus for the last day 11:00 minutes of game and couldn’t get to line, it was baffling. Only Draud would drive. Add to that the abysmal FT shooting by both teams, and well, you got a sloppy game IMO.

 

Bottom line. Beechwood has 3 players 6’6” and taller, and they think they are a 3 point shooting team. It’s maddening to watch. Draud got most of his points by going to basket. Until otherS figure out you got to drive to the rack To open up 3’s, it’s gonna be a long season. KISS. Drive, use height to advantage, crash boards, score down low, kick out for open 3. it’s easy to contest and guard the 3s right now. BW just chucks them from further back right now.

 

Credit to the Cru. They deserved this win. They knew the weakness, they exploited it. They outworked BW. Others will repeat until BW figures it out.

I actually thought the Tigers passed the ball pretty well last night. I can think of only a few possessions where they shot the ball after only one pass.

 

I always thought you wanted your best players taking the majority of the shots.

It’s still there in the St. Henry community. Their Junior class is the best class they have had since their 03’ 9th Region Title. People say the game has passed him by and they should be doing better than they are-I will just say that he truly is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet, and next year they will be a serious threat to my beloved Colonels.

And the talent does not dry up after these juniors graduate. Plus, the current success of Cru basketball will help bring in those middle school players who may be on the fence on which high school to attend.
