May 22, 20188 yr I'll bet he bought it from an individual not a dealer at the show...if that really happened. There is no gun show loophole, dealers at gun shows have to follow same laws as every other store selling guns, including background checks. I'd bet if a 13 year old bought a gun it was from an individual selling it. Just like a 13 year old can't buy Sudafed or Ocycontin at Walgreens, it doesn't stop a drug dealer standing over buy the magazines from selling to them. The video clearly shows the kid at a gun show buying a gun. He bought it from an individual at a gun show. No questions asked.
May 22, 20188 yr You locked up your alcohol and your car keys so your kids didnt take them from you unknowingly? Or are you saying you educated your children about the potential harm of underage drinking or underaged driving? I have kept extremely close tabs on all alcohol in my house(admittedly because I am a very selfish individual) and my kids have had their own cars since they have been legally allowed to drive. If they ever took my car out illegally before they had their own cars or a license then by the grace of God they didn’t kill anyone nor did I find out about it. I can 100% guarantee that if I owned guns they wouldn’t even know there were guns in the house let alone where I kept them. To add to that, if I knew my kids were unstable then I’d have a strong handle on that situation as well.
May 22, 20188 yr You ave to pass a background check and be of the right age to buy one. All you are proving here is even with all you just posted that you have to do to get a drivers license, we still have more people killed by texting and driving than we do in mass shootings. Add drunk drivers and speeding, and it's even worse. It comes down to personal responsibility and mental stability. That is bogus statistics. There is a massive difference in the amount of people driving versus people carrying guns. I think if we put a gun on every person who has a driver's license and allowed them to carry it around with them all day long the number of shootings and killings would go up.
May 22, 20188 yr I haven't completely read through this thread, but I can't understand why we don't look around the globe for solutions. No other country in the world has anywhere close to the level of gun violence, specifically in schools, as we do yet we bury our heads in the sand and refuse to look at others for solutions. We can clamor that parents are responsible, and I agree in large part they share the blame with the idiot kids that do the shootings, but IMO, so does every lawmaker, politician, representative and citizen that doesn't demand we change things. I agree with this. Japan, UK, the Scandinavian countries, Australia, etc, have extremely low gun related deaths. What are their laws and what are they doing different than the USA? Maybe our lawmakers can copy whatever they’re doing and come up with some solutions.

Do we think Japan has some kids off their rockers but just don't have the instruments to carry out their plan? Or is it something with the culture that makes the killings a non issue?

Wouldn't that be "cultures"? Not just Japan, but all of those other countries mentioned, too?
May 22, 20188 yr Wouldn't that be "cultures"? Not just Japan, but all of those other countries mentioned, too?Yes. I just picked out Japan.
May 22, 20188 yr Or is it something with the culture that makes the killings a non issue? This is at the heart of it all. We have a gun culture. That is not an opinion. I am not silly enough to believe this culture is the sole reason these things occur. But I am also not silly enough to believe that is not an element of the problem.
May 22, 20188 yr The video clearly shows the kid at a gun show buying a gun. He bought it from an individual at a gun show. No questions asked. The guy that sold it is irresponsible and an idiot. I have no problem putting a sysem in place that allows private sellers to complete background checks...I've stated over and over on BGP that private sellers is a hole in the system that needs to be fixed.
May 22, 20188 yr Yet, there are PEOPLE in other countries. Ones that play violent video games and watch violent movies. Why do these other countries not have the gun violence we do? ...and kids with mental health issues, kids growing up in broken homes, etc. I'm interested to hear the response to your question, TBG.
May 22, 20188 yr If you thought your kids would steal your beer or use grandpa’s pocket knife on someone why would you give them access to those things? Of course not.

But I am also not silly enough to believe that is not an element of the problem. But how would a gun culture lead to more shootings? My point is you can't just look at other countries and say "see they have the problem" so it must be guns. It's not even close to that simple. Guns themselves aren't the reason kids in this country shoot up schools.
May 22, 20188 yr One difference is that in most other countries students look at education and school as a privilege and are happy to be there. A lot of kids in this country don't look at it that way.

They don't have the amount of guns we have. A lot of them don't have near the amount of people we do either, Do they have the drug problem we do?
