I was speaking to the larger issue of Gun Control.

 

And again, for the record, I think we need a lot more Gun Control too but it has to start with a Universal Background check and not a bunch of piecemeal that does little or nothing but erode our rights.

Fair enough, I’m just waiting for someone to show a law that would have stopped this. Or I’m asking people to propose new ones.

Laws in almost all cases enforced AFTER they are broken. Unfortunately that's how laws work in free country. You can write 100 laws, but law breakers don't care.

2. Violence is always because of the WHO not the WHAT.

 

Just this week a man took his family out to eat, went out to his car and rammed the restaurant killing his daughter and daughter in law. If he had used and AR it would be all over the news for days on end...he used his vehicle and no one cares. It's not about WHAT is used it's always about the WHO and WHY...but the focus is always on the WHAT if a gun is used.

Guns were much easier to get when I was younger than they are today. Back then you just went in the local hardware store and bought one without any background check.

Well Glocks hadn't been invented yet, but the majority of Glocks shoot 9mm and .40cal which are very similar to .38's.

 

.357s, .44s, .45s were all common back then.

Mass shootings in the US don't just happen at schools and they aren't carried out only by millennials.

 

Guns have been part of our country since its founding. However, by and large, those guns were used for putting food on the table and self defense. Families owned guns and children were taught how to safely use them when they were of a proper maturity to do so. They were also taught a healthy respect for guns. Gun ownership was not equated with being patriotic.

 

That same respect for guns does not exist today. Guns are becoming entertainment. Want to blow through 2000 rounds of ammo this weekend? I can own as many guns as I want, just because I CAN! This is 'Merica. Take my gun when you can pry it from my cold, dead hand. Heck, we have people taking their graduation photos with their guns. Did that happen back in the 50s?

 

I want to be able to own guns that I can safely store and use for protection. I want my brother to be able to own guns that he can safely store and use for hunting. I want us both to be able to practice using those weapons to maintain proficiency. However, his children have learned the same respect for guns that my father taught us. All weapons are safely and securely stored.

 

I've been to homes lately and seen things that I'm not going to impart here, but those things convince me that we have a problem when we are more interested in being able to own a gun than we are with being able to keep innocent people safe from guns.

I don't drink, so what is wrong with target shooting being my entertainment?

Umm YES!

 

There is a lack of respect for others that seems to grow year by year. We see more and more videos each year of students attacking teachers. Young men playing the knockout game, where they randomly walk up and try to knock someone out. London which is virtually gun free has had one of the biggest increases in violence in decades this year.

 

Guns don't cause someone to go shoot someone else, that has to be in their mind and heart first.

I don’t know of any specific laws, but I’m open to listen and give serious consideration to any and all solutions brought to the table.

 

I think we should at a minimum spend the time, money and resources to study what other nations do that don’t have the mass shooting incidents that we do here.
