Well, that's no different either...parents had guns back in the old days of the 60s and 70s too.

 

Dad had a wooden gun case, my grandpa kept his in the corner of his bedroom, best friends dad had a rack on the wall...every where I went I could see guns when I was a kid.

There are way too many factors to peg to any one thing. This is an extremely complex problem.

No, this gun culture has not been around "a lot longer." Also, I don't believe that the Las Vegas shooter was of "this generation." Even so, this generation exists around the world. Why is it just a problem causing gun violence in the US?

 

Vegas shooter is more comparable to Charles Whitman at the University of Texas back in 1966.

Probably because the use of the gun in these events isnt carelessness. They shooters know exactly what they are doing.

Mass shootings in the US don't just happen at schools and they aren't carried out only by millennials.

 

Guns have been part of our country since its founding. However, by and large, those guns were used for putting food on the table and self defense. Families owned guns and children were taught how to safely use them when they were of a proper maturity to do so. They were also taught a healthy respect for guns. Gun ownership was not equated with being patriotic.

 

That same respect for guns does not exist today. Guns are becoming entertainment. Want to blow through 2000 rounds of ammo this weekend? I can own as many guns as I want, just because I CAN! This is 'Merica. Take my gun when you can pry it from my cold, dead hand. Heck, we have people taking their graduation photos with their guns. Did that happen back in the 50s?

 

I want to be able to own guns that I can safely store and use for protection. I want my brother to be able to own guns that he can safely store and use for hunting. I want us both to be able to practice using those weapons to maintain proficiency. However, his children have learned the same respect for guns that my father taught us. All weapons are safely and securely stored.

 

I've been to homes lately and seen things that I'm not going to impart here, but those things convince me that we have a problem when we are more interested in being able to own a gun than we are with being able to keep innocent people safe from guns.

Maybe because those "some" know very little to nothing will be accomplished by more gun control and all the time we waste on gun control is time that could have been spent on a solution that might actually work.

Or they have been scared by others into believing that ANY admission that guns are part of this problem will lead to the government coming to get your guns!!!!! Therefore, here are the talking points to counter those that challenge you.

I'll happily admit that I am wrong when something that has nothing to do with gun regulations is done and the number of mass shootings in the US plummets. Mark it down. I promise to be the happiest gal on the planet.

I was speaking to the larger issue of Gun Control.

 

And again, for the record, I think we need a lot more Gun Control too but it has to start with a Universal Background check and not a bunch of piecemeal that does little or nothing but erode our rights.
